General Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Department Head ofCardiovascular Services or designee the ElectrophysiologyRegistered Nurse performs pediatric, adolescent and adultdiagnostic and interventional electrophysiology (EP) procedures.

This position functions independently as an expert technologist inEP who is a highly competent and clinically skilled member of theCardiovascular Services patient care team.

Key Responsibilities:

Performs and assists the electrophysiologists with the mostcomplex electrophysiology studies. Operates complex electrophysiology specialty equipmentincluding but not limited to 3D mapping systems, stimulationsystems, intracardiac echocardiography and EP monitoring andrecording system. Performs at an expert clinical level and assists the physicianin the performance of pediatric and adult electrophysiologyprocedures; including both diagnostic and interventional. Serves as a role model and expert resource for both internaland external customers regarding standards of care for adult andpediatric diagnostic and interventional electrophysiologyprocedures. Implements safe, competent and efficient procedure care to EPwithin policies, procedures and standards of care across a varietyof populations and complexity of situations within the scope ofpractice. Demonstrates expertise in all cardiovascular laboratorytechnical skills, image acquisition, transferring and archiving ofimages, trouble shooting skills and expert knowledge of cathetersand specialty equipment used during EP procedures. Oversees and actively participates in annual EP skills, ECGcompetency and unit competencies for staff. Demonstrates an expert knowledge of radiological equipment &safety, shielding techniques, expert imaging skills and X-Rayequipment trouble-shooting skills, analyzing, 3D mapping andrecording equipment and other equipment utilized in theElectrophysiology Lab. Duties for this position include but are not limited tohemodynamic monitoring and recording of patients during EP. Intraand post procedure patient assessment and patient care within EPscope of practice, including but not limited to patient teaching,circulating and scrubbing roles for invasive procedures. Systematically and continuously collects, assesses anddocuments data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team toprovide procedural care with the EP patient and family.

Documentation of chronological events of the procedure and medicalcare during the procedure will require basic computer skills tocomplete electronic medical record. Assures that informed patient consent has been obtained andthat all questions and concerns have been answered to the patient’ssatisfaction. Ensures Universal Protocol standards are followed andmet for all invasive procedures. Assists with implementing of safe, competent and efficient careto EP patients and departmental policies, procedures and standardsacross a variety of populations and complexity of situations. Foresees potential problems, adapts priorities and plansindependently with and without medical direction in response togeneral information/data indicative of potential urgent or emergentlife-threatening risks, initiates action to reduce or correct therisk per ACLS guidelines. Performs similar or related duties as assigned. Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations asit pertains to the work area.

Requirements:
Formal Education:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program.

Required Licenses andCertifications Required:

Registered Nurse (RN) BLS required through

AHA ACLS

(within six months of hire date).

Preferred:

RCES, RCIT or

HRS CEPS

Certification Competency inCardiac Electrophysiology for Associated Professionals.
