Nurse:

Patient Ratios typical ratio for all medsurg units is 1:5 upto 1:6 at times, ratio would be adjusted down for higher acuitypatients

  • Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, chargeRN’s have ACLS
  • Common diagnoses/Types of patients Ortho, postoptotal joints, general medsurg overflow
  • Experience or ‘Must have’skills level 1 trauma experience required. experience at a largerfacility with a lot of surgeries/high acuity patients, must becomfortable with lines, chest tubes
  • Are RNs required to titratedrips? heparin, could have an order for amio and that can bestarted and then patient would be transferred to cardiac unit
  • -Common titratable &/or set rate drips cardiac drips on 3 southonly
  • Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs requiredto read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? everyunit has tele capability, patients are monitored on all units,central monitor station will communicate with RN, 3south tele unitalso has central monitors at nurses station and every patient is ontele
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse takean assignment? Both. Nurse managers are in house M-F businesshours, starting at 3pm M-F and all weekend there is an adult housesup. charge takes light patient assignment, will take full load ofpatients if needed. educator and manager for each unit. Smallerunits share manager and eduacator.
  • Are there nurse aids on thisunit/Ratios all units
  • RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, HighFlow, vents, etc.) cpap bipap at night, RT to help, high flow on2n,
  • Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Blockscheduling?) 12 hours, 7a-7p or 7p-7a, travelers are expected tofill holes but managers will try to accomodate block scheduling asschedule allows, open to weekenders if traveler would like to workevery weekend but that is not required
  • Weekend Requirement everyother or 2 weekends per month is standard, could be higher to meetneeds of department
  • Holiday Requirement rotate in with regularstaff
  • Is there Call or a Standby requirement? no
