The Pre-Op/PACU Nurse will collaborate with coworkers to achieve departmental goals and objectives in accordance with established policies. 

Responsibilities:

 Assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgeryPerform safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia periodEnsure operative and informed consents are signed and correctAssess patients and take/record vital signs to ensure readiness for surgical procedureInitiate IV’s and ensure patients are informed about the proceduresDocument all findings in the patient’s chartCommunicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkersMonitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physiciansMaintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiencesContinued assessment of post-surgical patients to determine readiness to dischargeEducate the patient/family member on the procedure and follow-up careOther duties as assigned by the department lead

Qualifications:

 Active Registered Nursing License — licensed to work in MSMust possess general clinical competency in acute patient careMust demonstrate aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encountersMust demonstrate the ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative careNursing experience in a perioperative setting preferredDocumentation of current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS preferred)
