Varies Position Summary:

A Nurse Practitioner offer autonomous nursing care to patients in the emergency department. Primary duties include advising patients on medical and nursing needs, assessing patients in their care and providing them with treatment plans and health education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the ER physician(s), the Nurse practitioner performs ER assessment and management of assigned patients’ continuum of care. Perform diagnostic medical assessments and formulates plan of care, orders appropriate tests, prescribes pharmacological and non- pharmacological therapies, recommends appropriate referrals to other health professionals; demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing, and delegating of patient care based on assessment/continuous reassessment; demonstrates appropriate response to and/or reporting of changes in clinical condition to appropriate provider and/or staff. Establish and maintain two-way communication with peers, staff, physicians and administration; maintains communication with referring and primary care physicians; communicates necessary information and/or provides consult to patient insurance carriers as appropriate. Communicate and follow through on issues or concerns and communicates information using appropriate chain of command. Document patient chart accurately, legibly and timely according to facility and regulatory standards. Participate in continuing education relating to assigned patient care unit/specialty, in-service education, and department/facility meetings. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement Efforts to ensure program effectiveness. Adapt and supports change in a positive and professional manner. Cooperates with peers and supports group decisions. Maintain validated competency skills as required for the assigned patient care unit. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills according to the appropriate population group; identifies needs of the patient, family member and caregivers. Plan and provide comprehensive care of patients in collaboration with the Hospitalist(s) Physicians; knowledge of Pharmacy processes as they apply to assigned patient care unit functions. Provide general and preventative care. Render services within the scope of practice by the Mississippi Board of Nursing and clinic protocols. Subject to irregular hours. May be required to wear personal protective equipment as directed. Follow infection control and isolation guidelines. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. License and Certification(s): Current Mississippi Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner licensure is required. Prescribing privileges through Mississippi Board of Nursing and Drug Enforcement Agency. BLS, ACLS, PALS and ATLS is required. Education and/or
