Required Qualifications:
Oneyear of recent Orthopedic RN experience Valid RN license incompliance with state regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC)
Certification Preferred Qualifications:
NIHSS certification ACLS(AHA/ARC) certification Other certifications and licenses may berequired for this position
Summary:
The Orthopedic Registered Nursedelivers comprehensive high-quality, patient-centered care onorthopedic units. This role involves assessing patient healthconditions, monitoring cardiac telemetry data, and collaboratingwith multidisciplinary teams to manage diverse patient needs. Theposition requires strong clinical skills in med-surg and telemetrynursing, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, anda commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safetyand professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions:
Explainsprocedures and treatments to patients and families, addressingconcerns and ensuring understanding Administers prescribedmedications and treatments in adherence to nursing standardsConduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ conditions,documenting changes and reporting concerns to the care team Preparepatients for diagnostic procedures, assist physicians duringtreatments, and monitor patient responses Maintains a safe andcomfortable environment for patients recovering from medicalconditions or surgical procedures Document comprehensive patientinformation, including vital signs, medications, treatments, andcare outcomes, in the medical record Collaborate withinterdisciplinary teams, including physicians, physical therapists,and social workers, to create and implement individualized careplans Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection controlguidelines, and regulatory standards Manage multiple patientsefficiently, prioritizing care based on acuity and clinical needsEnsure infection control practices are strictly followed, includinghand hygiene and PPE use Advocate for patients’ needs andpreferences, ensuring they are respected and integrated into thecare plan Facilitate discharge planning, coordinating withpatients, families, and external resources to ensure a smoothtransition from hospital to home Perform other duties as assignedwithin the scope of practice Adhere to hospital safety protocols,infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
RequiredEssential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and goodinterpersonal communication skills The ability to read, write, &communicate in the English language is required Ability toread/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions,and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in astationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs),pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To workeffectively with a variety of personnel (professional andancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
- Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public,customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able towork under close supervision occasionally as well as workingwithout assistance from other personnel.
