Summary:
The Pediatric ER RN provides comprehensiveemergency care to pediatric patients in a fast-paced clinicalsetting. This role involves assessing pediatric patient health,administering emergency treatments, and collaborating withmultidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality,patient-centered care for children and adolescents. The PediatricER RN demonstrates advanced clinical skills, effectivecommunication with children and families, and adherence to thehighest standards of patient safety, ethics, and professionalexcellence in emergency situations.
Essential Work Functions:
Explains emergency procedures and treatments to pediatricpatients and their families in an age-appropriate manner to fosterunderstanding and alleviate fear Administers prescribed and emergent medications and treatmentsin accordance with approved pediatric nursing techniques andemergency protocols Prepare and operate pediatric-specific emergency equipment,assisting physicians during treatments, procedures, andexaminations Ensure the comfort and safety of pediatric patients in theemergency setting, employing age-appropriate techniques andminimizing distress Perform pediatric vital sign assessments, using tools such asBroselow tape for weight-based measurements, and respond promptlyto deviations from normal Respond promptly to pediatric emergencies, such as respiratorydistress, trauma, or cardiac arrest Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, andoutcomes in the medical records Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians,and social workers, to provide comprehensive care Collaborate with families to develop and implement care plansthat address the unique needs of pediatric patients Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed atenhancing pediatric patient care and outcomes Perform other duties as assigned within the scope ofpractice Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection controlguidelines, and regulatory standards
