They are experts in assessing,diagnosing and treating people with psychiatric problems. Mentalhealth nurses work as part of a team to provide total medical carefor the patient Assess the mental health status of patients with behavioralchallenges. Collaborate with medical providers and mental health staff inthe design and delivery of patient care. Administer and monitor effectiveness and side-effects ofpsychotropic medications. Assist patients, and families as appropriate, to interpret andmanage maladaptive behaviors and to plan healthy lifestylechanges. Exercise balanced judgement in evaluation situations and makingdecisions to handle difficult or confrontational situations in aprofessional manner.
