Facility Overview:

241 licensed bed hospital located in Shelby, NC Level 3 Trauma Center, Certified Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center Non-teaching hospital

Unit Details:

32-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Requires minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience Open to first-time travelers

Patient Population:

Care for patients not requiring mechanical ventilation Common diagnoses: CHF, dysrhythmia, chest pain, stroke, abdominal issues, infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, AKI/CKD, ETOH withdrawal, IV drug abuse, etc.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

Most common: 1 RN to 4 patients May increase to 1:5 based on acuity

Required Credentials:

Active RN license

BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

certifications

Required Skills:

Tracheostomy care, cardiac gtt, cardiac rhythm interpretation Experience with chest tubes, blood product administration, wound care, central line management

Department Support:

CNA for ADLs, Charge nurse, Phlebotomy support IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy 24/7 Access to Hospitalist and Intensivist 24/7 Telemetry monitoring available

Technology Used:

EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors

Floating Requirements:

Must float within the region and scope of practice Facilities include: Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, CMC Main, Mercy, LCH Paid for travel time if floating mid-shift

Orientation:

Facility orientation (NEO) plus 2 days on the department

Scheduling:

Every other weekend rotation No on-call requirement Required to work 75% of holidays Up to 6 days of pre-approved time off (excluding holidays) Scheduling cycle: 6 weeks
