Job Description

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to teach high school students health science curriculum courses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops and delivers lesson plans for health sciences courses. Health science curriculum topics include human anatomy, physiology, human body systems, and human body diseases and disorders, as well as clinical skills used by healthcare professionals in the healthcare industry. Instruction is also provided for CPR as well as necessary skills to prepare students for the Nurse Aide I assessment.
  • Supervise and work directly with students in classroom lab and clinical setting to provide instruction in appropriate personal care of patients and basic nursing skills.
  • Provide normal maintenance of the health science lab equipment and ensure that inventory of materials and supplies is up to date.
  • Teach and practice necessary safety precautions to protect students, patients, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Utilizes classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate.
  • Uses appropriate techniques and strategies which promote and enhance critical, creative, and innovative thinking capabilities of students.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of current health science careers education instructional methods
  • Knowledge and ability to use various health equipment and instruments used in the health industry
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to education and students, as well as patient care and health education
  • Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, and human anatomy
  • Knowledge of Common Core and NC CTE Essential Standards
  • Proficiency in common desktop applications (web browsing, word processing, image editing, etc.

) required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Minimum:

    Associates Degree in Nursing PLUS two years related work experience in nursing within the past five years.

      Desirable:

      Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing PLUS two years related work experience in nursing within the past five years, or post-secondary nursing for clinical instruction.

      CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
      • Eligible candidates would hold a 720 Health Science Education OR be eligible for a 720 Health Science Education license with an appropriate degree and work experience
      • Unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse
