Medical-Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse(MS Tele RN)

Job Summary:

A Medical-Surgical Telemetry RegisteredNurse (MS Tele RN) provides patient care for adults with acutemedical conditions, post-surgical needs, and those requiringtelemetry monitoring. The MS Tele RN monitors patients’ cardiacrhythms, administers medications, and collaborates with amultidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care in a fast-pacedenvironment.

Key Responsibilities:

The MS Tele RN assesses, plans,implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients with acute orchronic conditions. This includes monitoring patients’ vital signsand cardiac telemetry readings for abnormalities or arrhythmias,administering medications, treatments, and interventions asprescribed by the physician, and using telemetry equipment tocontinuously monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms. They identifyand respond to changes in patients’ cardiac rhythms or vital signs,reporting significant findings to the physician or rapid responseteam promptly. In addition to monitoring, the MS Tele RN maintainsaccurate and detailed patient records, including assessments,interventions, and outcomes, while documenting telemetry monitoringfindings and nursing actions in accordance with hospital policies.

They work closely with physicians, case managers, physicaltherapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinatepatient care. Educating patients and their families about medicalconditions, treatments, and post-discharge care, as well asproviding emotional support to those dealing with serious orlife-changing conditions, is an integral part of the role. The MSTele RN recognizes and responds to signs of patient deteriorationor emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, participating inrapid response or code blue events, and performing life-savinginterventions such as CPR or defibrillation when necessary.

Ensuring patient safety by adhering to infection control protocolsand medication administration guidelines is essential. The MS TeleRN also advocates for patients’ needs and ensures their rights arerespected, while managing high-acuity patients and prioritizingcare effectively.

Qualifications:

The MS Tele RN must have anactive Registered Nurse (RN) license in the practicing state and anAssociate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science inNursing (BSN). Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac LifeSupport (ACLS) certifications are required, and Telemetry NurseCertification is preferred. Previous experience in medical-surgicalor telemetry nursing is ideal, although new graduates with strongclinical skills and telemetry training may be considered.
