Job Summary:
AProgressive Care Unit(PCU) Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)provides specialized, advancedcare to patients who are recovering from critical conditions butrequire close monitoring and frequent assessment. They care forpatients who have been stabilized from intensive care but stillrequire higher levels of monitoring and medical interventions,often managing complex medical conditions such as cardiac,respiratory, or neurological issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in the PCU Stepdown unit,including monitoring and managing complex medical conditions suchas post-surgical recovery, cardiac conditions, and respiratorydistress.
- Assess patients’ conditions, implement and evaluateindividualized care plans, and adjust care as needed to meetpatients’ evolving needs.
- Administer medications, treatments, andinterventions as prescribed, ensuring patient safety and adherenceto medical protocols.
- Monitor patients for signs of deteriorationand respond quickly to medical emergencies, escalating care asnecessary.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, andmultidisciplinary teams to develop and adjust treatment plans basedon patient needs.
- Educate patients and their families on medicalconditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies, promotingpatient independence and recovery.
- Document patient assessments,care provided, and responses to treatments in accordance withestablished protocols and regulations.
- Participate in the careplanning process, ensuring patients receive optimal care andachieve desired outcomes.
- Monitor vital signs, maintain accuratepatient records, and ensure all clinical documentation is completedand updated.
- Provide guidance and supervision to other nursingstaff, including Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and NursingAssistants (CNAs).
- Ensure adherence to infection controlprotocols, safety regulations, and hospital policies.
- Participatein continuous education, unit-based quality improvementinitiatives, and professional development activities.
Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
- Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.

Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred for patients withcardiac conditions.
