DescriptionThis position qualifies for our UNC Hospitals RNIncentive Program, which includes up to $20,000 commitmentincentive or up to $25,000 tuition loan forgiveness. In addition,this position is also eligible for up to $10,000 in relocationassistance (based on location) and our employee referral program.

We care foradult patients who have a burn injury and/or other type of complexwounds. The burn injuries on our unit are acute and generally lessthan 20% of total body surface area. We provide burn and wound careto these patients from the acute through rehabilitative phase. Wealso care for overflow patients from other units on the acute caresurgical units and occasionally overflow form the acute caremedicine units with patients including but not limited to: plasticsurgery patients, diabetic wounds, and pressure ulcers.

The nurseswho work on 5 East are trained in medical-surgical nursing as wellas burn and wound care. Our nursing team works with theinterdisciplinary team to provide the best possible care for ourpatients. The team includes physicians, physician assistants, nursepractitioners, nursing assistants, physical, occupational andrecreational therapists, chaplains, and rehabilitation counselors,social workers and dieticians. We are team oriented, dynamiccaregivers and experienced patient advocates. We foster aprofessional, collaborative atmosphere conducive to learning.

Thisposition is 36 hours/week, night shift position, 7pm-7:30am, withself-scheduling. It also qualifies for an extensive benefit packagealong with the RN incentive program.

SummaryProvides competent clinical nursing care consistentwith professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the NurseManager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible forcoordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursingprocess in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities Education•Participates in identifying and meeting learningneeds of self. Attends education programs based on identifiedlearning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materialsrelevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of thepatient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patientand factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care•Identifies expected patient outcomes.

Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participatesin discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team inevaluation of patient care. Communicates relevant information topromote continuity of care. Implementation•Demonstrates competence in care of patientswith complex problems, including population-appropriate physical,psychosocial, educational and safety aspects of care. Performsbedside point of care testing as required for patient care plan.

Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policiesand procedures in delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes careaccording to patient/family needs. Consults with appropriateresources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex careissues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk fordischarge planning. Leadership•With assistance, develops goals to promoteprofessional growth or minimize limitations. Achieves goals andobjectives within identified time frame or renegotiates withsupervisor. Is knowledgeable about activities which facilitateintra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in developmentand achievement of unit goals and performance improvementactivities. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within fouryears of employment, and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major inNursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within sevenyears of employment date.

Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state ofNorth Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare ProvidercertificationProfessional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
