Our assets are comprised of four helicopters as well asa fleet of ambulances dispatched by our communications center”Flightwatch”

  • all operating 24 hours a day.

Helicopter bases arelocated in Burlington, Aberdeen, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount. Rotorwing aircraft are staffed with one nurse and one paramedic. Theyrespond to both emergency scene requests as well as interfacilitytransfers of critically ill patients Our ground assets are locatedthroughout the Triangle.

In addition to the Critical Care Transportteams for the majority of our missions, we also have two dedicatedNeonatal Specialty Care Teams, which care for our smallestpatients.

Summary:

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent withprofessional standards. Reporting and accountable to the NurseManager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible forcoordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursingprocess in a hospital setting.

This position is 36 hours per week,rotating shifts and rotating bases with Carolina Air Care Pediatric/ Neonatal Critical Care Transport Team. The work environment is ahelicopter and ground ambulance with some time spent outdoors. Mustbe able to work in this environment with no restrictions and due toair craft safety regulations, there is a weight restriction and fitfor duty requirement i.e. weight 215 pounds or less and ability tolift 150 pounds with assistance.

Successful candidate will haverecent experience in Neonatal and/or Pediatric ICU with 3 yearsminimum and 5 years preferred.

Responsibilities:

1. Education

  • Participates in identifying and meeting learningneeds of self. Attends education programs based on identifiedlearning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materialsrelevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of thepatient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patientand factors affecting ability to learn. 2. Evaluation of Care
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeksguidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participates indiscussion with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluationof patient care. Communicates relevant information to promotecontinuity of care. 3. Implementation
  • Demonstrates competence in care of patientswith complex problems, including population-appropriate physical,psychosocial, educational and safety aspects of care.

Performsbedside point of care testing as required for patient care plan.

Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policiesand procedures in delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes careaccording to patient/family needs. Consults with appropriateresources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex careissues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk fordischarge planning. 4. Leadership

  • With assistance, develops goals to promoteprofessional growth or minimize limitations.

Achieves goals andobjectives within identified time frame or renegotiates withsupervisor. Is knowledgeable about activities which facilitateintra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in developmentand achievement of unit goals and performance improvementactivities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates inpromoting cost-effective care. Gives feedback to co-workers. Isaware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting thehealth care environment. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospitalenvironment for all. 5. Patient Assessment

  • Recognizes data from complex situations todetermine priorities for care.

Includes appropriate physical,psychosocial, education and safety needs. Synthesizes assessmentdata into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.

Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients andfamilies. Develops relationships with families that promote theirability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. 6. Planning

  • Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or updatethe plan of care.

Makes use of available multidisciplinaryresources in planning care. Begins to use full range ofcommunication as a means to convey planning. Identifies andaddresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.

Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complexproblems. 7. Research

  • Reads journals that contain studies or articles thatmay be applicable to practice.

Brings ideas and questions to thestaff at large for assessment of applicability.

Education Requirements:
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within fouryears of employment, and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major inNursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within sevenyears of employment date.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state ofNorth Carolina. Current AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS),BLS-Healthcare Provider, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)provider required prior to interview. Pediatric trauma certification such as Pediatric InternationalTrauma Life Support (PITLS), TNCC, or ENPC required within 1 yearof hire.

Professional Experience Requirements:

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in either pediatric orneonatal emergency or critical care management NICU or PICU, withfive (5) years preferred.
