https://vimeo.com/5397319085 East is seeking a Clinical Nurse IIfor Per Diem.5 East is a 15•bed Acute Burn and Wound Unit and wefunction as an extension of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center.

We care for adult patients who have a burn injury and/or other typeof complex wounds. The burn injuries on our unit are acute andgenerally less than 20% of total body surface area. We provide burnand wound care to these patients from the acute throughrehabilitative phase. We also care for overflow patients from otherunits on the acute care surgical units and occasionally overflowform the acute care medicine units with patients including but notlimited to: plastic surgery patients, diabetic wounds, and pressureulcers.

The nurses who work on 5 East are trained inmedical-surgical nursing as well as burn and wound care. Ournursing team works with the interdisciplinary team to provide thebest possible care for our patients. The team includes physicians,physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing assistants,physical, occupational and recreational therapists, chaplains, andrehabilitation counselors, social workers and dieticians. We areteam oriented, dynamic caregivers and experienced patientadvocates. We foster a professional, collaborative atmosphereconducive to learning.

This is a per diem, at will, position whichrequires the ability to work at least one 12 hour shift every twoweeks and one summer and one winter holiday each year. Thisposition is not eligible for employee benefits.

SummaryProvides competent clinical nursingcare consistent with professional standards. Reporting andaccountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse isresponsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizingthe nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities Education•Participates in identifying and meeting learningneeds of self. Attends education programs based on identifiedlearning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materialsrelevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of thepatient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patientand factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care•Identifies expected patient outcomes.

Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participatesin discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team inevaluation of patient care. Communicates relevant information topromote continuity of care. Implementation•Demonstrates competence in care of patientswith complex problems, including population-appropriate physical,psychosocial, educational and safety aspects of care. Performsbedside point of care testing as required for patient care plan.

Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policiesand procedures in delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes careaccording to patient/family needs. Consults with appropriateresources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex careissues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk fordischarge planning. Leadership•With assistance, develops goals to promoteprofessional growth or minimize limitations. Achieves goals andobjectives within identified time frame or renegotiates withsupervisor. Is knowledgeable about activities which facilitateintra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in developmentand achievement of unit goals and performance improvementactivities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates inpromoting cost-effective care. Gives feedback to co-workers. Isaware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting thehealth care environment. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospitalenvironment for all. Patient Assessment•Recognizes data from complex situations todetermine priorities for care. Includes appropriate physical,psychosocial, education and safety needs. Synthesizes assessmentdata into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.

Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients andfamilies. Develops relationships with families that promote theirability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Planning•Collaborates with patient/family to prepare orupdate the plan of care. Makes use of available multidisciplinaryresources in planning care. Begins to use full range ofcommunication as a means to convey planning. Identifies andaddresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.

Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complexproblems. Research•Reads journals that contain studies or articles thatmay be applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to thestaff at large for assessment of applicability.
