They are experts inassessing, diagnosing and treating people with psychiatricproblems. Mental health nurses work as part of a team to providetotal medical care for the patient
• Assess the mental healthstatus of patients with behavioral challenges.
• Collaborate withmedical providers and mental health staff in the design anddelivery of patient care.
• Administer and monitor effectivenessand side-effects of psychotropic medications.
• Assist patients,and families as appropriate, to interpret and manage maladaptivebehaviors and to plan healthy lifestyle changes.
• Exercisebalanced judgement in evaluation situations and making decisions tohandle difficult or confrontational situations in a professionalmanner.
