Required Qualifications:
One year’s recent experience as a postpartum RN? Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC)
Certification NRP Certification Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS (AHA/ARC) Certification Other certifications and licenses may be required for thisposition
Summary:
The Postpartum Registered Nurse providesspecialized, family-centered care to mothers and newborns in thepostpartum unit. This role involves assessing maternal and newbornhealth, implementing care plans, supports breastfeeding andeducating families on postpartum and newborn care. The PostpartumRN collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure optimal outcomesand demonstrates advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and acommitment to patient safety and professional ethics.
EssentialWork Functions:
Explains postpartum and newborn care procedures to mothers andfamilies to gain cooperation, understanding, and alleviateapprehension Administers prescribed medications and treatments to mothersand newborns safely and accurately, following establishedprotocols Assess and monitor the health of postpartum mothers andnewborns, identifying changes, addressing complications, andrecording significant conditions and reactions Assists with and educates on breastfeeding, addressingchallenges to ensure successful feeding practices Performs newborn assessments, including vital signs, weightchecks, and required screening tests Responds to life-saving situations using evidence-basedprotocols and best practices Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams Educates new parents on infant care, maternal recovery, andpostpartum health, including safe sleep practices and early signsof complications Prepares equipment and aids physicians during examinations andany necessary postpartum or neonatal procedures Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of mothers andnewborns, ensuring a safe, supportive environment for bonding Documents all relevant history and physical assessments forassigned patients accurately in medical records Performs other duties as assignment within the scope of thepractice
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonalcommunication skills The ability to read, write, & communicate in the Englishlanguage is required Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbalinstructions, and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism Technical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
