Required Qualifications:
One year ofrecent Orthopedic RN experience Valid RN license in compliance withstate regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC)
Certification PreferredQualifications:
NIHSS certification ACLS (AHA/ARC) certificationOther certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:
The Orthopedic Registered Nurse delivers comprehensivehigh-quality, patient-centered care on orthopedic units. This roleinvolves assessing patient health conditions, monitoring cardiactelemetry data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams tomanage diverse patient needs. The position requires strong clinicalskills in med-surg and telemetry nursing, critical thinkingabilities, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintainingthe highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.
Essential Work Functions:
Explains procedures and treatments topatients and families, addressing concerns and ensuringunderstanding Administers prescribed medications and treatments inadherence to nursing standards Conduct comprehensive assessments ofpatients’ conditions, documenting changes and reporting concerns tothe care team Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, assistphysicians during treatments, and monitor patient responsesMaintains a safe and comfortable environment for patientsrecovering from medical conditions or surgical procedures Documentcomprehensive patient information, including vital signs,medications, treatments, and care outcomes, in the medical recordCollaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians,physical therapists, and social workers, to create and implementindividualized care plans Adhere to hospital safety protocols,infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards Managemultiple patients efficiently, prioritizing care based on acuityand clinical needs Ensure infection control practices are strictlyfollowed, including hand hygiene and PPE use Advocate for patients’needs and preferences, ensuring they are respected and integratedinto the care plan Facilitate discharge planning, coordinating withpatients, families, and external resources to ensure a smoothtransition from hospital to home Perform other duties as assignedwithin the scope of practice Adhere to hospital safety protocols,infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
RequiredEssential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and goodinterpersonal communication skills The ability to read, write, &communicate in the English language is required Ability toread/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions,and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in astationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs),pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To workeffectively with a variety of personnel (professional andancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
- Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public,customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able towork under close supervision occasionally as well as workingwithout assistance from other personnel.
