Summary:
To perform professional nursing duties utilizing specialized advanced knowledge and certification to ensure implementation of services and therapeutic interventions based on the nursing process and Standards of Care promulgated by the Department of Veterans Affairs in long-term care.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
COUNTSEach additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, human services, psychology or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience:
Three years’ experience as a registered nurse in long term nursing care, ambulatory care, emergency care, psychiatric nursing, medical surgical nursing, or other related nursing specialty. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification:
1. Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.2. Current certification in CPR.3. Must be certified by the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying entity in a specialty that is consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the New Hampshire Veterans Home

Responsibilities:
Provides care and treatment for NH Veterans Home residents with responsibility for the administration of medication. Utilizes professional nursing knowledge and skills in evaluating the overall physical and emotional needs of residents and in implementing interventions and care plans.
Collaborates with others to resolve issues related to patient care, analyzing patient data and outcomes to provide comprehensive medical treatment planning. Ensures communication of policies, procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) projects.
Provides ongoing supervision, training of subordinates, and mentoring of the Nurse Specialist Trainees. Works cooperatively with other staff members and other disciplines in evaluating residents progress towards set goals of the total treatment plans.
Conducts orientation and in-servicing of nursing staff; guides and instructs designated personnel engaged in patient care and treatment; supervises professional and paraprofessional personnel.
Provide in ividual counseling/teaching for residents or staff on specific health concerns or disease prevention/processes.
Serves as an on-call/PRN (whenever necessary or as needed), as an in-house resource, and works a modified weekend schedule and overtime
