Job Description
TITLE:
School Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Nursing preferred. Associate’s Degree acceptable if candidate is willing to earn B.S. within the approved timeline through NH DOE
Demonstrated experience in pediatric care with 3 year’s clinical pediatric nursing experience or related work experience under a valid RN license.
Demonstrated management and human relations skills
School Nurse Certification through the NH DOE •selected applicant will need to apply for this credential if not already held.
Experience in schools, either as a nurse or in some volunteer role preferred
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the principal:
Organizes, administers and manages school health services
Assumes responsibility for appropriate health assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral activities for students in the district.
Provides for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention of illness and injuries
Responsible for direct and indirect care given to students in compliance with school district policies, professional standards of practice, health care provider orders and students’ individual health plans.
May coordinate health screenings and immunization programs as needed.
Acts as a liaison between health care providers, school community and students’ parent(s)/guardian(s)
Participates in the development of individual education plans when appropriate
Respects dignity, confidentiality and rights of all students and staff
Upholds regulations and laws related to confidentiality, reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect, NH State immunization requirements and other health related requirements
Assists in the planning of proper emergency care and first aid for sudden illness and accidents that occur during school or school-related activities
Insures the maintenance of accurate health records for all students and the submission of all reports
Facilitates in-service training for health-related issues to staff members in the district
Maintains professional competencies through in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth programs
Assists in the development and expenditure of annual budget.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
WORK YEAR
The work year will be 188 days in conjunction with the adopted school calendar and as described by the Superintendent. The normal work day will be 7.5 hours.
SALARY:
Salary will be determined by the School Board. The benefits will be those for non-contracted (non-union) employees.
