Job Description:

Utilizes the nursing process toprovide patient care.

Assesses the patient using methods such asobservation, interview, and review of clinical data.

Developsindividualized plan of care based on assessment and in conjunctionwith physician orders to achieve deserved outcomes.

Implements planof care.

Directs licensed and unlicensed personnel to implement planof care.

Utilizes the results of evidence-based research to improveclinical outcomes.

Provides patient/family education to effectdesired clinical outcomes.

Reports pertinent patient assessmentdata, plan of care and response to unlicensed personnel,physicians, nurse manager, and other health care teammembers.

Documents patient care in the inter-operativerecord.

Participates in interdisciplinary patient care discussions.

Communicates with other health care team members to resolveoperational problems and deliver quality patient care.

Provides asafe environment for the patient during the peri-operativeperiod.

Provides equipment and supplies based on patientneeds.

Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of aseptictechnique and its applications. Creates and maintains a sterilefield.

Exhibits circulating and scrubbing capabilities.

Demonstratesknowledge of the physiological, pathophysiological and anatomicalaspects of the surgical procedures assigned.

Provides assistance tothe surgeon and anesthesiologist as necessary.

Demonstratesknowledge of nursing action in the event of a MalignantHyperthermia crisis.

Provides input and recommendation for thepreparation and implementation of capital and operationalbudgets.

Assist with surgical suite turnovers.

Ability to takeon-call as needed.

Communicates with other health care team membersto resolve operational problems, patient satisfaction and clinicalinitiatives.

Participates in the following: Mandatory trainingrequirements as per unit/hospital policies Continuingeducation/inservices to enhance knowledge Staff meetingsPerformance improvement initiatives Orientation of new staff,students and/or volunteers

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited RN programrequired BSN or obtain BSN within 5 years of hire required

Note:

RNs thatwere hired prior to 10/1/13 that do not have a BSN aregrandfathered. BSN upon hire preferred Two years Medical/Surgical nursing and Operating Roomexperience preferred.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

MassachusettsRegistered Nursing License

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
