Job Description UPMC Somerset is seeking a Casual, Staff Nurseto join their Operating Room! /n The Professional Staff Nurse is aRegistered Nurse and an essential member of the care delivery team.
This role involves setting the standards for the quality and levelof care provided. The Professional Staff Nurse takes responsibilityfor managing and delivering nursing care while collaborating withpatients, families, and healthcare providers. They demonstrateleadership, partnership, and supervision to ensure effectiveteamwork and positive outcomes. Committed to both the community andthe nursing profession, the Professional Staff Nurse plays a vitalrole in achieving quality patient care. /n The schedule will mainlywork daylight hours, 6:45 A.M.

M. or 5:15 P.M., based ondepartment needs. This role will also include call coverageresponsibilities throughout the year.
Responsibilities:

- Applies the nursing process within the framework of RelationshipBased Care to create a healing environment.
Formulates daily goalsand a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as apartner and considers the individual needs of the patient in aholistic manner. Demonstrates critical thinking in theidentification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, andspiritual issues for patient care within an episode of care.
Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulate andtranslate the patient’s condition to other care providers and tonegotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care andunit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotescommunication between caregivers. Incorporates nationalprofessional organization as well as business unit and healthsystem’s goals to improve patient safety, quality, andsatisfaction. Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focusedexperience by building healing relationships with patients,families, and colleagues. /n
- Actively participates in departmentor unit-specific quality improvement efforts.
Identifiesopportunities for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
Takes personal responsibility in improving patient satisfactionwith the quality of care and service. Utilizes research andevidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical careidentifies research issues or articles related to clinicalspecialty or areas of interest, discusses opportunities for qualityimprovement at multidisciplinary rounds, and influences patients’plans of care. /n
- Develops and maintains productive workingrelationships internally and externally by demonstratingaccountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitmentto patients and colleagues.
Demonstrates an understanding ofcultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthyrelationships. Maintains a conscious balance between work andpersonal life. Models safe work hours, time management, and ahealthy lifestyle. Communicate with peers and management any safetyhazards identified in the workplace. /n
- Demonstrates knowledge ofadult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable)and applies them in teaching patients, families, students, and newstaff.
Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to patients andfamilies to effectively guide them through the episode of care aswell as transition to another level of care and/or home. Supportsthe development of students, new staff, and colleagues, and mayserve as a preceptor. Creates an environment of open dialogue,inquiry, and continuous development by asking for feedback andimproving practice. /n
- Demonstrates accountability forprofessional development that improves the quality of professionalpractice and the quality of patient care.
Actively participates inunit-based shared governance, and goal setting and supports thechange and transition process to improve quality of care and thepractice environment. Serves as a highly engaged and full partneron the care team and responds willingly to care, and team member,needs for assistance and partnership. Participates in work thatimproves patient care and the professional practice environment.
Adapts to change and demonstrates flexibility with the changeprocess. /n /n
- Minimum 1 year experience. /n
- BSN preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
/n /n
- AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS) /n
- Basic Life Support (BLS) ORCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR is required based on AHAstandards that include both a didactic and skills demonstrationcomponent within 30 days of hire /n
- Basic Cardiac DysrhythmiaInterpretation. /n
- Registered Nurse (RN) /n
- Act 33 with renewal/n
- Act 34 /n
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal /n /n
- Currentlicensure either in the state where the facility is located or, ifthe facility is in a state covered by the multistate NursingLicensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by aparticipating NLC state.
Hires and current employees working on anout-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to thestate where the facility is also located will have 60 days uponchanging their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
