93 Medical Cardiology (D4N)The Registered Professional Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans,directs, implements and manages the needs of assigned patientsthroughout the episode of care with a focus on progress towarddischarge, including during transitions within the acute care stay.
The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the deliveryand coordination of patient care provided by the caregiving team.
S/he assures that competent, compassionate patient care isuniformly provided to customers including referring facilities,hospital staff and patients in the inpatient, ambulatory, andcommunity settings. The Medical Cardiology unit is a 29-bed unitconsisting of 1 private room, 13 semi-private rooms and one 4bedroom. Patients are received from the Emergency Department,Cardiac Catheterization Lab, CCU, MICU, physician offices, andother facilities when inpatient admission is necessary. The patientpopulation served includes male and female, acute and chronicallyill patients with a variety of cardiac and medical diagnoses. Mostpatients admitted to the unit require telemetry monitoring afterreceiving minimally-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures. Theage range is from young adult (18 years) to geriatric (100) years.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Implements physician orders, administers medications, starts IVs,performs treatments, procedures and special tests, and documenttreatment as required by company policy and local/state/federalrules and regulations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluatesdiagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ conditions.
- Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, carerendered.
- Applies sound nursing judgment in patient caremanagement decisions.
- Provides primary and emergency care foroccupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
- Administers over-the-counter and prescription medications asordered.
- Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan ofCare for all patients.
- Directs and guides ancillary personnel andmaintain standards of professional nursing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a professional academic nursing program in which aDiploma, Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree is conferred.
- Must hold current NYS Registered Nurse license.
- Obtains andmaintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Previous experience as a PCA orother nursing assistance preferred.
- Ability to improve jobperformance through continuing education.
- Possesses knowledge ofquality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools andtechniques and demonstrates ability to apply in support ofdepartmental and patient care quality improvement.
