Required Qualifications:
One year of recentexperience as a Pre/Post-Op RN Valid RN license in compliance withstate regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC)
Certification PreferredQualifications:
ACLS Certifications PALS certification Othercertifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:
The Post/Pre-Op Registered Nurse provides specialized careto patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery. This roleinvolves assessing patient health before and after surgery,implementing care plans, administering treatments, andcollaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality,patient-centered care. The Post/Pre-Op RN ensures patient safetyand comfort prior to and during the surgical recovery period, usingadvanced clinical skills, effective communication, and adherence toprofessional and regulatory standards.
Essential Work Functions:
Assesses patients pre-operatively, including reviewing medicalhistory, performing physical examinations, and identifyingpotential risks Prepare patients for surgery, including educatingthem about procedures and post-operative care Receive and conductcomprehensive assessments of patients transferring from theoperating room and assess their post-anesthesia condition Monitorspatients post-operatively for complications and manages pain andrecovery Administers prescribed medications and treatments inaccordance with approved nursing techniques Maintains awareness ofcomfort and safety needs of patients in the perioperative settingObserves and document patient conditions treatments, andsignificant incidents. and responses to anesthesia and treatments,notifying the care team of significant changes or adverse reactionsTakes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs todetect deviations from normal, assesses patient condition andresponds appropriately Respond promptly to emergency situationsutilizing Pre/post op nursing standards, policies, procedures, andprotocols Accurately document patient assessments, interventions,and recovery progress in medical records Develop and deliverindividualized patient and family education plans, includingdetailed discharge instructions and recovery guidelines Collaboratewith the surgical team and other healthcare providers to ensurecomprehensive pre and post-operative care Participate in patienthandoff communications to ensure continuity of care between unitsand departments Operate and monitor pre and post op-specificequipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumpsPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines,and regulatory standards
