00 The NursePractitioner (NP) is a nurse who, through clinical experience,study and supervised practice in patient care at the masters ordoctoral level, has gained expertise in a specific specialty areaof patient care services. The NP demonstrates the advancedknowledge, skills, and credentialing required to function inadvanced practice and expanded specialty nursing. The NP has theresponsibility and accountability for the assessment and managementof patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations,therapeutic interventions and the day to day implementation andevaluation of an appropriate plan of care. As an advancedpractitioner, the NP is essential to the case management of patientwith specialized health needs. The NP works in collaboration withthe attending physician, primary nurse and other health careproviders to provide family centered care. The NP is responsibleand accountable for the development and application of specialtypractice standards, and research to enhance the quality of care tothe patient and the patient’s family.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities include:

Apply knowledge of anatomy, principles ortheories of neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, humandisabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, human growth anddevelopment, human developmental disease, and medical terminologyas appropriate in the care setting and as appropriate for level ofmedical licensure. Conduct patient assessments and completephysical examinations, collect clinical data including vital signs,collecting specimens, prepare patients for tests, therapy, ortreatments, order and interpret medical laboratory test results,diagnose medical condition of patient, administer medications ortreatments and perform minor surgery. Knowledge of the informationand techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries,diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatmentalternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventivehealth-care measures. Complete accurate patient coding foreffective billing, maintain accurate and detailed patient medicalreports, and maintain inventory of medical supplies andinstruments. Serve as a resource and team leader during clinicalshifts to ensure the smooth flow of patient processing, treatmentand discharge including patient triaging. Act as a mentor to newstaff and/or physician assistant students.

Qualifications:

Master’sDegree of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

  • required Ableto quickly master all aspects of a computerized medicalrecordkeeping and billing system. Must project a professional imageand earn the confidence of others. Excellent interpersonal, verbal,and written skills. Must be HIPAA compliant at all times. NP
