Job Summary:

Reports to SeniorVice President, Patient Care Services/CNO. Responsible foridentifying, implementing, monitoring and evaluating nursingstandards of practice and operational quality improvementactivities; including all Human Resource and Educationalactivities.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Participates with the SeniorVice President for Patient Care Services and other members of thenursing staff in establishing philosophy and goals of the NursingDepartment.
  • Monitors planning of staffing to ensure safe patientcare.
  • Ensures that all areas have appropriate staffing plans, andrecruitment, hiring & retention practices to retain qualified stafffor positions. Monitors staffing effectiveness regularly.
  • Providesdirect supervision of Assistant Directors of Nursing, NurseManagers and Administrative Nursing Coordinators.
  • Demonstratesworking knowledge of legal, regulatory and union requirements. Inaddition, provide clinical leadership to adhere to enforcement ofstate nursing practices.
  • Provides effective, timely response andcommunication with superiors, peers, staff, otherdepartments/disciplines, and Medical staff. Meets regularly withChairperson of Service for joint planning.
  • Plans data-drivenPerformance Improvement activities which fit into theorganization-wide plan and makes quantifiable improvements in theservices provided.
  • Participates with Senior Vice President forPatient Care Services in establishing standards/guidelines/policieswhich ensure efficient, safe and effective patient care
  • Participates with Senior Vice President for Patient Care Servicesin planning the portion of nursing Department’s budget, table oforganization for the division and control of the divisional budget
  • Provides opportunities for professional growth and development ofstaff based on clinical and professional standards of clinical careand of professional practice.
  • Monitors the counseling anddiscipline of nursing personnel. Provides consultation in the areaof clinical expertise.
  • Represents the Department of Nursing onselected committees through participation or representation
  • Participates in the system of continuing education to increaseadministrative and clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Innovative andimplements best practices in care.
  • Assumes other responsibilitiesas assigned by the Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements.

Skills:

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years of nursing experience.
  • Critical thinking,math, and computer skills
  • Excel & Word.
  • Effective application ofTQM teams, quality measures, clinical guidelines and processmanagement initiatives.
  • Monitors and facilitates the meeting ofrequirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and other regulators.
  • Capable inproducing trend and evaluation data and documentation.
  • Knowledgeof quality improvement philosophy models, processes and tools andtheir use in health care integrated settings.
  • Maintains currencywith state of the art and regulatory trends.
  • Knowledge of methodsfor CQI, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Works effectively in integratedstructure by establishing effective working relationships with alldepartments and levels of staff.
  • Demonstrates competence inleadership and administrative skills.
  • Works as a team player
  • Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.

  • Able to see, hear, read and write English
