Job Summary:

Provides and/orarranges for orientation and training programs, in-service,education and other educational programs for the development offacility personnel. Provides orientation to nursing staff, providesin-services and educational programs. Job Responsibilities

  • Understands Rutland Nursing Home’s Mission and Core Values andincorporates them in daily practice.
  • Treats every resident, familymember, and co-worker with dignity, respect, and courtesy
  • Supports a clinical practice environment where nursing staffprovides exceptional care for the pediatric residents.
  • Creates andsupports an environment of staff engagement and involvement tosupport a professional practice environment.
  • Participates in thecreating policies, procedures and regulatory requirements andassures all team members are knowledgeable in these areas
  • Establishes and maintains a systematic process for ensuring allnursing staff documentation is done in accordance with facilitypolicy and procedure.
  • Formulates, implements, and evaluatespolicies and procedures for the facility wide in-service programs
  • Prepares annual calendar and master schedule of mandatory andother pertinent in-service programs.
  • Schedules, conducts, andarranges mandatory and other in-services for all staff.
  • Preparesthe monthly in-service calendars and distributes them to alldepartments.
  • Keeps abreast of and recommends training resources todepartment.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources and DepartmentHeads conducts and /or arranges facility orientation for all newemployees. Conducts orientation for Nursing staff.
  • Under thedirection of the Director of Nursing, plans, organizes and promotesthe standards of nursing practices.
  • Establishes and organizes alldocumentation regarding in-service programs.
  • This includes but isnot limited to: Minutes of meeting, Records of attendance, LessonPlans, Content of lessons and resources uses.
  • Summary ofin-service evaluations: Provides monthly summary of all activitiesto Director of Nursing. Works closely with the Quality AssuranceCoordinator Safety Committees. Collaborates with Infection Control,Pharmacy, and Quality Departments.
  • Assists in formulating long andshort term with goals within the clinical areas as participates inevaluation of the results.
  • Conducts unit rounds to determinecurrent and future needs for in-services to ensure provision ofquality care.
  • Assists Unit Nurses in maintaining standards ofpractice for resident care.
  • Communicates and collaborates with allmember of resident care team to provide optimum care to ourresidents.
  • Monitors Nursing employee’s adherence to facilitypolicies related to wound care, meal service, safeguarding ofcontrolled medications, provision of resident care, etc.
  • InspectsNursing Service areas and monitor practices for compliance withcurrent applicable regulations, on regular basis.
  • Has an activerole in identifying and addressing quality issues, and implementingcorrective action and plan as necessary.
  • Participates in programsdesigned for in-service education and orientation classes for newNursing Department Hires, as well as ongoing in-service educationprograms.
  • As part of assessing staff competence, randomly monitorsand reviews the documentation on new admission making certain thatdocumentation was done correctly.
Working Conditions:
  • Will work ina well-lighted and ventilated area.
  • Will be subject to frequentinterruptions.
  • May be asked to work beyond normal working hours,and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in in-service education.
  • Must be able toread, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for theposition as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by thepolicies of this Center which includes a medical and physicalexamination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift aminimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involveexposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able toassist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.
PreferredSkills & Experience:
  • Acute or Long Term Pediatric Experience
  • Ventilator experience.
