SUMMARY:

The Trauma & Stroke Nurse Quality Coordinator is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and improving the performance of the trauma and stroke programs, to help reduce unnecessary variation in care and prevent adverse events. The Trauma & Stroke Nurse Quality Coordinator aims to increase the value of care by improving the quality of processes, improving the quality of outcomes, and decreasing costs. The Trauma & Stroke Nurse Quality Coordinator works in collaboration with the Director of Quality and the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) on the operational and logistical aspects of the trauma and stroke performance improvement programs utilizing both process review and peer review.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Assists in maintaining a comprehensive written plan outlining the performance improvement programs of the trauma and stroke programs. + Manage the data collection system and ensure the data is reliable and consistently obtains the information necessary to identify opportunities for improvement. + Maintain a process of event identification and levels of review that result in the development of corrective action plans, methods of monitoring, reevaluation, and benchmarking. + Coordinate problem resolution, outcome improvements, and assurance of safety (“loop closure”) utilizing methods of monitoring, reevaluation, benchmarking, and documentation. + Facilitate peer review to ensure trauma and stroke cases are reviewed in a timely manner. + Collaborate with hospital quality department on the integration of quality and safety activities. + Collaborate with local, state and regional trauma/stroke systems on trauma/stroke system performance improvement efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, pre-hospital agencies, flight personnel, transferring facilities and rehabilitation facilities. + Collaborate with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD), TPM, and the trauma liaisons on trauma performance improvement projects and education. + Collaborate with the Stroke Medical Director on stroke performance improvement projects and education. + Monitor, and where applicable participate in, national quality and patient safety initiatives related to trauma and stroke care. + Assist in the implementation of clinical practice guidelines, protocols and algorithms derived from evidence-based validated resources and track compliance with their utilization and monitor patient outcomes. + Ensure all process and outcome measures are documented within the performance improvement programs written plan and facilitate annual review of the plan. + Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to assess the needs, variances and complications of trauma and stroke patients. + Assist with the creation and maintenance of a trauma/stroke dashboard of all performance improvement cases. + Assist the TPM with TQIP reporting and benchmarking tools and use these benchmark reports to implement quality and performance improvement initiatives on trauma patients. + Assists with trauma registry as needed to include, data validation, entry and reporting. ​

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

+ RN licensure in the State of New York + Bachelor of Science in Nursing or working on degree + Minimum of two years nursing experience in emergency department, operating room or ICU. + Mandatory education as required by hospital and accrediting bodies + Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) completed within 1 year of hire. + Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) must obtain at first available offering. ​

+ Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills + Ability to develop and implement clinical policies and procedures + Expert knowledge and ability sufficient to develop and apply procedures in complex assignments + Experience to provide clinical and community education + Excellent computer skills with the experience in data collection, interpretation and analyzing + Professional knowledge and technical ability to analyze, design, test and implement systems and applications + Demonstrate an independent work initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail + Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

M – Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. $77,200.00 – $98,300.00

13676 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
