Utilize the nursingprocess in the provision of direct patient care. Responsible andaccountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all careprovided to assigned patients. Delivery of care is based on thestandards of care and practices established by the Department ofNursing and other policies and procedures (hospital, nursing,multidisciplinary). Diagnose and treat human responses to actualand potential health problems through such services as casefinding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of caresupportive or to restorative of life and well-being. Supervisepatient care provided by licensed practical nurses (LPNs),registered nurses on permit (RNP), nursing attendants, technicians,and supplemental staff. Responsibilities 1. Assess the immediateand continuing care needs of the patient/significant other. 2.Develop comprehensive and current plans of care which includephysical needs, patient, patient teaching, and discharge planningand psychosocial/spiritual needs. 3. Provide direct patient carebased on assessed needs and the medical regimen. Oversees andensures the provision of all aspects of care for the patient.

Supervises the care provided by other nursing personnel as definedin the scope of practice. 4. Observe, evaluate, document, andcommunicate to relevant team members the patient’s response toillness and/or therapeutic modalities. Ensures timely reassessmentof patient responses to treatment and when significant changesoccur in patient condition and/or diagnosis. 5. Coordinate theoverall plan of care to ensure implementation of nursinginterventions and consistency with medical regimen. (a) Establishpriorities for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinaryteam and initiates follow-up, as indicated, to ensure timelyprovision of patient care and therapeutic modalities. (b) Assurethe plan of care integrates age-specific care needs (e.g.pediatrics, geriatrics) as defined in the unit scope of care. 6.Accept responsibility and accountability for nursing interventionsand outcomes based on professional clinical judgments. 7.Participate in QI activities related to patient care delivery andthe development of nursing/hospital standards. 8. Demonstrateability to communicate effectively, manage stressful situationsappropriately and facilitate interpersonal relationships with otherdisciplines.

Other Responsibilities:

1. Participates in theorientation of nursing staff. 2. Assumes charge responsibilities asdelegated by the Nurse/Manager designee. 3. Ensures appropriatecoverage of all patients by assisting and relieving co-workers, andworking on other units as assigned. 4. Maintains a safe,therapeutic environment for patients, significant others, andstaff. 5. Serves as a clinical resource for student nurses. 6.Participates in meetings, committees, conferences, and educationalprograms. 7. Participates in research and pilot projects supportedby the Nursing Department. 8. Demonstrates responsibility forcontinuing professional growth and education, including attendanceat staff development and continuing education programs, pursuanceof baccalaureate/graduate degrees in nursing, and appropriateprofessional certifications. 9. Participates in appropriateprofessional and community organizations.

Noexperience required, some preferred. Ability to fully utilizeBHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcareand billing systems relevant to this position.
