Albany, NY Position Summary:
TheRegistered Professional Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans,directs, implements and manages the needs of surgical patientsthroughout the episode of care with a focus on progress towarddischarge, including during transitions within the acute care stay.
The surgical nurse acts as the patients advocate during thesurgical procedure. The Registered Professional Nurse isresponsible for the delivery and coordination of patient careprovided by the caregiving team. S/he assures that competent,compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to customersincluding referring facilities, hospital staff and patients in theinpatient, ambulatory, and community settings. Essential Duties ℜsponsibilities include but not limited to:
- Implements physicianorders, administers medications to the sterile field, document asrequired by organizational policy and local/state/federal rules andregulations.
- Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, andresponses to, care rendered.
- Applies sound nursing judgment inpatient care management decisions.
- Directs and guides ancillarypersonnel and maintain standards of professional nursing.
- Acts asthe patient advocate in the surgical setting
MinimumQualifications:
- Graduate of a professional academic nursingprogram in which a Diploma, Associate Degree or BaccalaureateDegree is preferred
- Must hold current NYS Registered Nurselicense
- Obtains and maintains certification in Basic Life Support(BLS), CNOR is preferred
- Minimum of 1-3 years of previousclinical RN experience is preferred in the surgical setting
- Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, andproblem-solving tools and techniques and demonstrates ability toapply in support of departmental and patient care qualityimprovement The Albany Medical Center’s Surgical Care program isgrowing to address the needs of our patients.
We have expanded oursurgical facilities and capabilities. The Operating Room at ourMain Campus has 35 state-of-the-art operating suites with the mostadvanced robotic technology and specialty rooms for cardiac,neurology, urology, vascular and pediatric patients. Hybridoperating suite combines minimally invasive and interventionalsurgical techniques and includes 3D and rotational CT imaging.
