POSITIONSUMMARY:

The Clinical Support Nurse, (CSN) assumes a leadershiprole by providing on-site expert consultation to Patient CareServices Staff in clinical patient care situations. The CSN teachesand supports staff to learn patient care skills that requireadditional education, may require clinical certification and arenot easily met by unit specific opportunities. The CSN also hasspecific direct patient care responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES

? Assist staff develop clinical skills and problemsolve in complex patient care situations. ? Teach and support staffto initiate access and manage intravascular therapy. ? Providedirect care in selected complex patient care situations. ?Negotiate effectively to reach consensual decisions with staff andmanagers.

EDUCATION

Graduate of a professionalacademic nursing program. BSN or actively pursuing BSN preferred.

Holds current RN Registration or a Limited Permit to practice inthe State of New York.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of three years recentacute care clinical experience in specific patient populationsserved.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communicates effectively withpatients, family members, employees and others. Listens activelyand verifies and clarifies messages. Seeks the input of others toachieve consensus. Applies problem solving, negotiating andconflict resolution skills into communication. Utilizes Chain ofCommand as needed to reach optimum outcomes. Reads and interpretsdocuments such as Quality Reports and Hospital Policy andProcedures. Ensures that patient care is documented on establishedforms.

Carries out responsibilities inadherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined byAMC and the tenets of the Professional Nursing Organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
