Job Summary:
The RN will be working at the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) and Outpatient Service (AWS) in Ithaca, NY. The primary focus is to assist physically and psychologically those impacted by Opioid Use Disorder.
Education/Experience:
Current NYS Registered Nurse with an Associate’s degree in SUD or related field or a combination of experience and education in behavioral healthcare. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, crisis intervention skills, and the ability to maintain healthy & appropriate treatment boundaries.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with behavioral health and/or substance abuse background. Three (3) years relevant experience.
Skills/Knowledge:
An addictions nurse needs to have good listening and assessment skills, have good communication skills for one-to-one interventions, ability to educate both on a one-to-one level and in a group setting (educational lectures). It is also paramount to provide a healing environment, not one of moral judgment, when dealing with the addicted individual.
Key Tasks:
Provides direct professional nursing care to clients within scope of practice at the Ithaca clinic and as needed on the Mobile Medication Unit. Ensure accurate (perpetual) inventory of all medical supplies, sharps, medications, and controlled substances; requisitions medical supplies or equipment. Complete necessary nursing assessments including vital signs, risk assessment, and withdrawal assessment as indicated by OASAS regulations and timelines. Implement and utilize the necessary nursing interventions according to facility policy. Maintain professional and accurate medical documentation in electronic and paper charting. Engage in professional, timely, respectful, and effective communication with all members of the treatment team order to keep staff informed of client medical issues.
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
Provides leadership, review, and monitor LPN’s work. Coordinate medical referrals to outside providers for clients. Set up discharge medical services appointments for clients. Provide safe, professional nursing care to clients when needed. Triage emergent client medical issues and coordinate care with the NP and Nurse Manager Maintain medication inventory by ordering medication refills, as well as communicating with medical provider for new orders. Resolve insurance issues related to client medications and complete prior authorizations as necessary. Participate in continued education trainings as directed or necessary. Assist RN/LPN and Clinical Staff as needed
