Job Summary The Nurse Educator-RNC provides clinical educationto nursing staff, students and others in order to meet orientationand continuing education needs. Serves as a resource by mentoringstaff and monitoring/evaluating clinical competencies to assure thehighest quality clinical outcomes and safety. Acts as a role modelto all staff. Core Job Responsibilities A Nurse Educator is ahighly experienced, registered nurse who uses their knowledge,skills and expertise to provide clinical education and professionaldevelopment to nursing staff and students. Participates ineducational programs for the staff, students, and the nursingfacility. Contributes to the professional development of peers andcolleagues through innovative programs in both a classroom settingand on the nursing units. Works collaboratively with the NursingLeadership to assess the educational needs of staff. Participatesin individualized orientation and evaluates the employee’s progresstowards achievement of competency. Ensures that new employees arescheduled for facility and/or unit-specific mandatory programs.

Documents progress and competency per policy and addresses issuesin collaboration with the Director of Education and NurseLeadership. Assesses the practice of nursing staff and students intheir assigned area through direct observation, chart reviews andparticipation in quality monitors. Participates in the developmentof plans to educate staff based on identified needs to ensure thatsafe, high quality patient care is consistently delivered. Conductsclasses and/or provides individualized instruction. May work withNurse Leadership to implement individualized employee improvementor development plans. Tracks the progression and achievement ofcompetency. Presents results and new or revised action plans toDepartment Manager when indicated. Participates in investigatingconcerns of nursing practice and keeps current in the latestresearch in area of expertise. Creates an environment thatoptimizes patient/resident safety and the quality of care beingdelivered to our patients/residents. Provides clear andconstructive feedback to educate in an effective manner. Works as adirect care RN as appropriate to ensure they keep current withpatient care techniques and to help create a sense of teamwork,transparency and understanding of what the direct patient carenurse jobs entail. Participates in the development of standards ofnursing care practice through participation in assigned committeesand workgroups. Works collaboratively with other health careprofessionals and departments. Maintains a high standard ofprofessional responsibility and performance as well as encouragesthe development of skills in members of the nursing staff. Supportsand role models the policies and procedures to ensure the deliveryof excellent care and customer service meets or exceedspatient/resident expectations. Ensures the delivery ofcompassionate patient centered care that addresses patient andfamily needs and concerns in a timely manner. Complies with allMVHS and RNC training and competency requirements. Functions as aNurse Aide Trainee Program (NATP) Instructor and will act as aPractical Trainer for the NATP as needed. Is knowledgeable of NATPrequirements as outlined in 42 CFR 483.152. May not supervise morethan eight (8) trainees during the supervised clinical trainingportion of the training program. Perform related duties asrequired. Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED

Graduate ofan accredited school of nursing. Minimum 2 years of nursingexperience with 1 year in a long term care setting. Must havecompleted a professionally recognized course for teaching adults orsupervising nurse aides to function as the NATP Coordinator andInstructor, or must be able to complete the course within 60 daysof hire and prior to the start of a new NATP class.

PREFERRED

BSNin nursing. Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED

Validand unrestricted registered nursing license in NY State.

PREFERRED

AHA BLS and/or ACLS Instructor certification. Certification in areaof specialty.
