Job Summary:
The Vice President, Nursing Excellence, reporting to the Chief Nurse Executive, is responsible for coordinating and leading activities to attain and maintain American Nurses Credentialing Center) ANCC Magnet Recognition across WMCHealth.. The VP of Nursing Excellence is an integrated leadership position serving in a key role in the design the Network Magnet Recognition program strategy by working collaboratively with clinical nurses patient care providers, nursing leaders and the senior nursing leadership team. In collaboration with the Nursing team, the VP will facilitate a supportive environment for professionals, excellence in nursing practice, Evidence Based Practice (EBP), performance improvement and nursing research. The VP will assist with special projects, support nursing professional development and other professional practice. The VP, Nursing Excellence models appropriate behaviors as exemplified in the WMCHealth Mission, Vision and Values.
Responsibilities:
In conjunction with the CNE and senior nursing leadership team, facilitates the commitment for the Magnet Journey process. Provides timely updates to the CNE and senior leadership team recommendations and changes of the ANCC Magnet. Creates and facilitates the integration of Magnet program standards into the facility structures and processes. Conducts a Magnet gap analyses in conjunction with the Network VPs, Directors, and Professional Nursing Staff. Responsible for gathering, cataloging, writing and submitting required evidence according to Magnet guidelines. Maintains a repository of nursing excellence evidence. Engages leadership and Magnet champions to plan and execute the plan for/or continuing Magnet designation Plans and coordinates readiness for Magnet site visits. Works with external consultants as applicable in the Magnet journey for guidance/review of development of Magnet documents. Ensures the on-time completion and submission of the required initial and subsequent Magnet document. Ensures required interim documentation for ANCC is maintained and submitted on time (i.e. Nurse Satisfaction, Nurse-sensitive indicators, patient satisfactions – unit level data). Provides leadership for compliance with Magnet standards and maintains communication with ANCC Magnet Program Office. Assists Nursing Staff with developing unit-based problem-solving and decision-making skills that promote nurse practice autonomy and excellence. Supports the unit based Shared Governance Council and leads the Network level Council. Collaborates with Network Nursing Leadership on the integration of current Evidence Based Practice and nursing research. Ensures Magnet quality data, related data, and relevant units are represented and disseminated (i.e. NDNQI, HCAPHS and nursing stats such as BSN, Certifications and Education). Develops and provides ongoing education related to magnet with of SOEs and Eos, mentoring clinical RNs and serves as an educational resource on Magnet for all Network personnel. Supports and evaluates Network level projects, programs, and councils that strengthens nursing excellence throughout the organization. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
5 years of nursing leadership experience or informal leadership in nursing governance, accreditation, or related leader activities. Experience working in a Magnet organization with an established role in the Magnet Journey.
Education:
Master’s degree in nursing, nursing administration, health care or business administration, required. Doctorial degree in Nursing preferred, Licenses /
Certifications:
Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Education Department as a Registered Professional Nurse.
