Job Description UPMC Harrisburg, IV Therapy is seeking anexperienced RN for a Part-time Night shift position; apply todayfor your opportunity to join this fantastic team! /n TheProfessional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a member of thecare delivery team. The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible toset the standards for the level and quality of care. TheProfessional Staff Nurse has responsibility, authority andaccountability for the provision of nursing care. The ProfessionalStaff Nurse manages and provides patient care activities for agroup of patients and their families through the application ofindependent judgment, communication and collaboration with all teammembers. The role of the Professional Staff Nurse encompassesleadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. TheProfessional Staff Nurse establishes and maintains collaborativerelationships with physicians, other health care providers,patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomesthroughout the continuum of care. The Professional Staff Nursedemonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursingprofession.
Responsibilities:

- Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/orteaching children if applicable) and applies in teaching ofpatients, families, students and new staff. Provides detailed andappropriate teaching to patients and families to effectively guidethem through the episode of care as well as transition to anotherlevel of care and/or home. /n
- Supports the development ofstudents, new staff and colleagues, may serve as a preceptor.
Creates an environment of open dialogue, inquiry and continuousdevelopment by asking for feedback and improving practice. /n
- Applies the nursing process within the framework of RelationshipBased Care to create a healing environment.
Formulates daily goalsand a plan of care for patients that involves the patient aspartner and considers the individual needs of the patient in aholistic manner. Demonstrates critical thinking in theidentification of clinical, social, safety, psychological andspiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care. /n
- Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulateand translate the patient’s condition to other care providers andto negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient careand unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive andpromotes communication between caregivers. /n
- Incorporatesnational professional organization as well as business unit andhealth system’s goals to improve patient safety, quality andsatisfaction. Creates a caring and compassionate patient focusedexperience by building healing relationships with patients,families and colleagues. /n
- Demonstrates accountability forprofessional development that improves the quality of professionalpractice and the quality of patient care. Actively participates inunit-based shared governance, goal setting and supports the changeand transition process to improve quality of care and the practiceenvironment. /n
- Serves as a highly engaged and full partner onthe care team and responds willingly to care team member needs forassistance and partnership. Participates in work that improvespatient care and the professional practice environment. Adapts tochange and demonstrates flexibility with the change process. /n
- Actively participates in department or unit-specific qualityimprovement efforts. Identifies opportunity for quality improvementto colleagues and management. Takes personal responsibility inimproving patient satisfaction with the quality of care andservice. Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to supportimprovement in clinical care. /n
- Identifies research issues orarticles related to clinical specialty or areas of interest,discusses opportunities for quality improvement atmultidisciplinary rounds, and influences patients’ plans of care./n /n
- The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledgeand skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriatelyto the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit asspecified below. /n
- They must also demonstrate knowledge of theprinciples of growth and development over the life span and possessthe ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status andinterpret the appropriate information needed to identify eachpatient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs andto provide the care needs as described in the department policy andprocedures. /n
- One year of RN experience. /n
- BSN preferred. /n
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationshipswith executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers,ancillary and support staff, other departments, andpatients/families. /n
- Ability to work productively andeffectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changingpriorities and specialized equipment. /n
- Good clinical judgmentwith critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilitiesrequired as related to various aspects of patient care. /n
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead othersin application of the nursing process. /n
- Mobility and visualmanual dexterity. /n
- Physical stamina for frequent walking,standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
/n /n UPMC offers avariety of flexible options in addition to traditionalrotating/flexible shifts, special programs exist to work primarilynight shifts or weekend shifts with a premium pay differential.
Employees hired as or who choose to transition into one of theseprograms at a later time must have at least 6 months of nursingexperience to qualify and may be required to complete any necessaryorientation during regular business hours. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMCapproved national certification preferred. Current licensure as aRegistered Professional Nurse either in the state where thefacility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compactagreement with the state where the facility is located. CPRrequired based on AHA standards that include both a didactic andskills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. Graduatenurses must complete licensure examination within
SIX MONTHS
ofhire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date ofgraduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the resultsof the examination are known at which time it becomes null andvoid), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demotedfrom the GN position, at the discretion of the BU. /n /n
- BasicLife Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /n
- Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) /n
- Act31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal /n
- Act 33 with renewal /n
- Act 34 with renewal /n
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal /n /n
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility islocated or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistateNursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate licenseissued by a participating NLC state.
