options!)/n /n The Senior Professional Staff Nurse OR is a Registered Nurseand a member of the care delivery team. The Senior ProfessionalStaff Nurse OR is responsible to set the standards for the leveland quality of care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse, OR hasresponsibility, authority and accountability for the provision ofnursing care. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse OR manages andprovides patient care activities for a group of patients and theirfamilies through the application of independent judgment,communication and collaboration with all team members. The role ofthe Senior Professional Staff Nurse, OR encompasses leadership,partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Senior ProfessionalStaff Nurse, OR establishes and maintains collaborativerelationships with physicians, other health care providers,patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomesthroughout the continuum of care. The Senior Professional StaffNurse OR demonstrates a commitment to the community and to thenursing profession.
Responsibilities:

- Patient advocate. /n
- Ability to circulate and scrub surgeries. /n
- Maintain sterileenvironment. /n
- Acquire knowledge of surgical equipment andinstrumentation. /n
- Performs scrub role (requirement for RNshired on or after July 1, 2023). /n
- Performs in accordance withsystem-wide competencies/behaviors.
- Performs other duties asassigned. /n /n
- Minimum 2 years experience. BSN preferred. /n
- Annual completion of a professional contribution selected fromdepartment, hospital or system gals, and approved by Unit Director
OR, UPMC
approved nursing certification required within 1 year ofhire/transfer and must be maintained OR certification from the UPMCWolff Learning Academy Center for Nursing Excellence requiredwithin 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained OR master’sin nursing or DNP. If a BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a relatedfield may be substituted in lieu of Certification. /n
- Theindividual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skillsnecessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the agesof the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growthand development over the life span and possess the ability toassess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret theappropriate information needed to identify each patient’srequirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to providethe care needs as described in the department policy andprocedures. /n
- Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on aProfessional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted tothis level. Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annualperformance evaluation to maintain status. /n
- Ability toestablish and maintain positive, caring relationships withexecutives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers,ancillary and support staff, other departments, andpatients/families. /n
- Ability to work productively andeffectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changingpriorities and specialized equipment. /n
- Exemplary clinicaljudgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solvingabilities required as related to various aspects of patient care./n
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to leadothers in application of the nursing process. /n
- Mobility andvisual manual dexterity.
Physical stamina for frequent walking,standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
Licensure,Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a RegisteredProfessional Nurse either in the state where the facility islocated or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement withthe state where the facility is located. . UPMC approved nursingcertification preferred. Annual completion of 2 professionalcontributions selected from department, hospital or system goals,and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1professional contribution selected from department, hospital orsystem goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forththrough UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder. Certification not requiredif Master’s in nursing or DNP is held. CPR required based on AHAstandards that include both a didactic and skills demonstrationcomponent within 30 days of hire. /n
- Basic Life Support (BLS) ORCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /n
- Registered Nurse (RN) /n/n
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility islocated or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistateNursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate licenseissued by a participating NLC state.
