A Brief Overview Delivers NursingCare by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing careobjectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical,emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients,families, and friends to understand patient conditions,medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions andneeds; re-evaluating care objectives. What you will do Providespatient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; communicatingthe nursing care plan and all pertinent information to othermembers of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcareproviders; providing physical, emotional, psychological, andspiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferringwith physicians. Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medicalhistories; examining patients; documenting patient physicalcondition, psychological status, and influencing social factors;conferring with family and friends; developing a nursing diagnosis;establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursinginterventions, schedules, and timetables. Teaches healthcarerequirements by establishing patient care goals; instructingpatient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications,and self-care skills; answering questions; providing informationand resources. Evaluates patient care by adhering to therapeuticstandards; measuring health outcomes against patient carestandards; reviewing patient records; noting changing conditionsand needs; re-evaluating care objectives; modifying nursing careplan. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environmentby adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medicationadministration and storage procedures, and controlled substanceregulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, andto legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns.

Documents patient care services by charting in patient anddepartment records. Keeps patient care equipment operating byfollowing operating instructions and established procedures;troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performingpreventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Keeps patient caresupplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing andexpediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items. Maintainscompetence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership.
