Job Description The Professional Staff Nurse is a RegisteredNurse and a member of the care delivery team. The ProfessionalStaff Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level andquality of care. The Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility,authority and accountability for the provision of nursing care. TheProfessional Staff Nurse manages and provides patient careactivities for a group of patients and their families through theapplication of independent judgment, communication andcollaboration with all team members. The role of the ProfessionalStaff Nurse encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration andsupervision. The Professional Staff Nurse establishes and maintainscollaborative relationships with physicians, other health careproviders, patients and their families, to achieve desired patientoutcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Professional StaffNurse demonstrates a commitment to the community and to the nursingprofession.
Responsibilities:

- Provides direct and indirectpatient care in the peri-operative setting. /n
- Preparing theoperating room by setting up sterile instruments, equipment, andsupplies while ensuring that all necessary tools and medicationsare available and sterile. /n
- Creates a caring and compassionateexperience for patients, visitors, and colleagues. /n
- Practicessolid communication skills with team members and can articulatechanges in the patient condition while contributing recommendationsto the plan of care. /n
- Maintaining appropriate state of the unitby stocking, organizing, and cleaning care areas as per regulatoryrequirements. /n
- Performs in accordance with system-widecompetencies/behaviors. /n
- Performs other duties as assigned. /n/n
- The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge andskills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately tothe ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit asspecified below. /n
- They must also demonstrate knowledge of theprinciples of growth and development over the life span and possessthe ability to assess data reflective of the patients status andinterpret the appropriate information needed to identify eachpatients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and toprovide the care needs as described in the department policy andprocedures. /n
- Minimum 2-year experience in the operating room.
BSN preferred. /n
- Ability to establish and maintain positive,caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians,non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, otherdepartments, and patients/families. /n
- Ability to workproductively and effectively within a complex environment, handlemultiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. /n
- Goodclinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problemsolving abilities required as related to various aspects of patientcare. /n
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and tolead others in application of the nursing process. /n
- Mobilityand visual manual dexterity.
Physical stamina for frequent walking,standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
Licensure,Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved nationalcertification preferred. Current licensure as a RegisteredProfessional Nurse either in the state where the facility islocated or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement withthe state where the facility is located. CPR required based on AHAstandards that include both a didactic and skills demonstrationcomponent within 30 days of hire /n
- Basic Life Support (BLS) ORCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /n
- Registered Nurse (RN) /n
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal /n
- Act 33 with renewal/n
- Act 34 with renewal /n
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal /n/n
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility islocated or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistateNursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate licenseissued by a participating NLC state.
