Position Title:

Parish Nurse Reports to : Associate Pastor for

Program Staff (part-time, non-exempt, hourly)

Position Summary:

The Parish Nurse works in close collaboration with the Caring Ministries Team to promote whole-person health with a focus on intentional care of the spirit within the faith community.

Responsibilities and Duties:

General Support:

Maintains confidentiality, promotes trust and respect. Understands the weekly and annual rhythm of the liturgical and programmatic calendars. Understands the organization of the staff and the church leadership. Appropriately represents BMPC to outside constituencies. Is an effective verbal and written communicator. o Practices within the Scope and Standards of Faith Community Nursing1: Develops caring relationships with members. Visits church members in their homes, at care facilities and/or in the BMPC office. Provides health counseling and support with the goals of optimizing abilities, preventing illness/injury, facilitating healing and alleviating suffering. Evaluates health and wellness needs and communicates them to the Care Team and Pastoral Staff. Documents care notes that serve as historical record of member contacts while maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Provides follow-up and support via phone and email. Recognizes and responds appropriately to issues of concern and operates according to mandated reporter requirements. Serves as an advocate and liaison between church members, community agencies and health care practitioners, providing referrals as needed. Collaborates with community groups (as example, Main Line Health) to sponsor healthy lifestyle and wellness programs. Coordinates AED/CPR training for ushers, volunteers and staff. Maintains AEDs and First Aid Kits across BMPC campus. Acts as liaison with Fitness Groups providing classes at BMPC. Coordinates the medical equipment loan program. Contributes to health-related communication to staff and the faith community through written and digital media. Participates in Deacon Meetings on a scheduled basis. o Collaborates with the Caring Ministries Team, other staff members and volunteers: Meets regularly with the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care the Parish Social Worker and the Director of the Middleton Counseling Center to provide intentional holistic care and education of the faith community. Coordinates with the Caring Ministries Team to develop a response plan in critical life-changing events. Consults with pastors, staff members, Weekday School director and church leaders regarding ways to meet the care needs of various ministry areas Consults with The Middleton Counseling Center counselors and clients when needed. Contributes to the monthly Caring Ministries e-news. Assists with development, implementation and management of programs to engage volunteers, including the Deacons and Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Qualifications:

A registered nurse with a BS in nursing or the equivalent. Has Parish Nursing experience or is able to attend training in the field of Parish Nursing. Able to maintain appropriate boundaries and keep professional confidentiality standards. Able to work non-judgmentally and collaboratively with a professional and approachable manner. Able to maintain appropriate records. Has basic computer skills; communicates effectively verbally and in writing. Committed to lifelong learning, education, and spiritual growth for self and others. Possesses a valid PA driver’s license and insured car. Available to maintain regular office hours with periodic work on Sundays as agreed.
