- MedSurg/Telemetry providescomprehensive nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical(MedSurg) unit with a focus on telemetry monitoring.
These patientsmay have a wide range of conditions, including cardiovascularissues, respiratory conditions, post-operative recovery, and otheracute illnesses or injuries that require constant monitoring. TheRN in this role is responsible for administering medications,monitoring vital signs and heart rhythms, performing assessments,collaborating with healthcare teams, and providing patienteducation. The primary goal is to ensure the safety, comfort, andoptimal recovery of patients. /n/n
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
/n /n
- Perform comprehensiveand continuous assessments of patients, including evaluating vitalsigns, heart rhythms (via telemetry), and overall condition. /n
- Monitor and interpret telemetry data to detect any irregularitiesin heart rate, rhythm, and other vital parameters, notifying thehealthcare team if needed. /n
- Assess physical, emotional, andpsychological needs of patients, developing individualized careplans to promote recovery and wellness.

MedicationAdministration and Management:
/n /n
- Administer prescribedmedications, including oral, intravenous, and intramuscularmedications, while ensuring proper dosing and timing. /n
- Monitorpatients for side effects and adverse reactions to medications,immediately reporting any issues to the physician or healthcareteam. /n
- Provide pain management interventions and adjust carebased on patient response and comfort level.

Telemetry and Cardiac Monitoring:
/n /n
- Monitor patients withtelemetry units to assess heart rate, rhythm, and overall cardiachealth, documenting and reporting any irregularities to the medicalteam. /n
- Assist in the interpretation of telemetry readings,ensuring prompt intervention for any abnormal findings such asarrhythmias, tachycardia, or bradycardia. /n
- Maintain andtroubleshoot telemetry equipment to ensure proper function andreliable patient monitoring.

Wound Care andPost-Surgical Care:
/n /n
- Provide post-operative care forsurgical patients, including monitoring incision sites, managingdrains, and ensuring proper wound healing. /n
- Perform dressingchanges, assess for signs of infection, and educate patients onpost-surgical care instructions. /n
- Administer treatments tomanage or prevent complications, such as deep vein thrombosis(DVT), pressure ulcers, or infections.

PatientEducation:

- Educate patients and their families on diseasemanagement, including medication regimens, lifestyle modifications,and post-discharge care. /n
- Offer guidance on managing chronicconditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease,ensuring patients understand their role in maintaining health. /n
- Provide education on fall prevention, nutrition, activityrestrictions, and discharge planning.

Collaborationwith Healthcare Team:
/n /n
- Work closely with physicians, nursepractitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare providersto implement and adjust patient care plans. /n
- Participate indaily rounds to discuss patient progress, care needs, and treatmentadjustments. /n
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams,including physical therapy, social work, and dietitians, to provideholistic care to patients.

Emergency Response andCritical Care:
/n /n
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies,including cardiac arrests, respiratory distress, and sudden changesin patient condition. /n
- Provide immediate interventions,including CPR, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), or otherlife-saving measures, in collaboration with the healthcare team. /n
- Manage patients who experience acute changes in their condition,escalating care as necessary (e.
g., transferring to ICU ifrequired). /n /n /n 8. /n
Documentation and Reporting:
/n /n
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of allassessments, interventions, patient responses, and communicationsin the electronic health record (EHR). /n
- Ensure that patientinformation is up-to-date and readily available for otherhealthcare professionals involved in patient care. /n
- Report anychanges in patient condition or concerns to the appropriatehealthcare provider and follow up on recommendations.

Infection Control and Safety:

- Follow infection controlprotocols to prevent the spread of infections, including properhand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), andsterile techniques when necessary. /n
- Ensure patient safety byregularly assessing for fall risks, managing medications safely,and preventing hospital-acquired infections. /n
- Maintain a cleanand safe environment for patients by adhering to hospital policiesand infection prevention measures.

QualityImprovement and Continuing Education:
/n /n
- Participate inhospital quality improvement initiatives and patient safetyprograms aimed at enhancing care delivery and outcomes. /n
- Staycurrent with the latest nursing practices, healthcare technologies,and patient care protocols, especially in telemetry monitoring andMedSurg nursing. /n
- Attend continuing education workshops,certification programs, and professional development opportunitiesto maintain licensure and expertise.
