Required Qualifications:

One year of recentexperience as a PACU RN Valid RN license in compliance with stateregulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification ACLS (AHA/ARC)certification

Preferred Qualifications:

PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPCcertifications Other certifications and licenses may be requiredfor this position

Summary:

The PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)Registered Nurse provides specialized care to patients recoveringfrom anesthesia and surgery. This role involves assessing patientrecovery, implementing post-operative care plans, administeringtreatments, collaborating with the surgical team, and coordinatingcare for discharging or transporting patients. The PACU RN ensurespatient safety and comfort during the critical recovery period,using advanced clinical skills, effective communication, andadherence to professional and regulatory standards.

Essential WorkFunctions:

Receive and conduct comprehensive assessments ofpatients transferring from the operating room and assess theirpost-anesthesia condition Monitors and evaluates patient’s vitalsigns, level of consciousness, and recovery from anesthesiaAdministers prescribed medications and treatments in accordancewith approved post-anesthesia nursing techniques Monitor andevaluate patient vital signs, level of consciousness, and responseto anesthesia Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs ofrecovering patients Observes and document patient conditions,treatments, and significant incidents and responds to anesthesiaand treatments, notifying the care team of significant changes oradverse reactions Respond promptly to emergency situationsutilizing PACU nursing standards, policies, procedures, andprotocols Accurately document patient assessments, interventions,and recovery progress in the medical records Develop and deliverindividualized patient and family education plans, includingdetailed discharge instructions and recovery guidelinesCollaborates with the surgical team and other healthcare providersto ensure comprehensive post-operative care Participate in patienthandoff communications to ensure continuity of care between OR,PACU, and post-PACU units Operate and monitor PACU-specificequipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumpsPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

Required Essential Skills:

Critical thinking, service excellenceand good interpersonal communication skills The ability to read,write, & communicate in the English language is required Ability toread/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions,and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities

  • Remain in astationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs),pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
