Required Qualifications:
  • One year ofrecent experience as a CVOR RN
  • Valid RN license in compliancewith state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ ARC)
CertificationPreferred Qualifications:
  • ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification
  • Othercertifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:

The CVOR nurse has the responsibility of providing directand indirect nursing care to assigned patients. The CVOR nurseassists in monitoring and supporting the patient throughout thesurgical procedure. They are responsible for collaborating closelywith the entire surgical team to ensure the optimization of patientoutcomes by confirming all necessary surgical supplies andequipment are sterile and functional, assisting with safe patientpositioning and draping, and coordinating immediate post-surgicalcontinued patient care.

Essential Work Functions:
  • Maintainproficiency in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic surgical proceduresincluding open and closed heart surgeries
  • Prepare theCardiovascular operating room for the patient and surgicalprocedure
  • Assemble equipment, supplies, medications, andimplants, ensuring equipment functions and supplies are available
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, andthe surgical team to deliver coordinated care
  • Utilize data fromsurgical preference cards for the surgical procedure and surgeon
  • Position patients safely using approved devices to prevent injuryand enable optimal surgical exposure
  • Actively participate inUniversal Protocol and timeout to confirm patient identity,procedure, and surgical site
  • Handle and document specimensaccurately to ensure diagnostic integrity
  • Provide post-surgicalcare coordination, including patient handoff to the recovery team
  • Assess, plan, and evaluate the nursing care of the patient before,during, and after a surgical procedure until patient handoff to thenext phase of care
  • Ensure that sterile procedures are followedthroughout the course of surgery
  • Respond effectively toemergencies, such as cardiac arrest, during surgery
  • Perform otherduties as assigned within the scope
  • Adhere to hospital safetyprotocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
  • Critical thinking, service excellenceand good interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to read,write, & communicate in the English language is required
  • Abilityto read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbalinstructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities
  • Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment(50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Towork effectively with a variety of personnel (professional andancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills
  • Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment.
  • Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the generalpublic, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must beable to work under close supervision occasionally as well asworking without assistance from other personnel. Must be able tocontend with irregular activity schedules occasionally andcontinuous concentration to detail
