The nurse is responsible for providing health services, illness and injury care, preventive health education, medication administration, and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal health regulations. The nurse supports the mission of the school by caring for students with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesHealth Services and Student CareProvide direct care to students and staff for injuries and acute or chronic illnesses.

Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with school policy.

Maintain accurate health records, immunization documentation, and individual student health plans (IHPs).Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student health concerns.

Manage care for students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, allergies).Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate care with EMS when necessary.

Health Education and PromotionProvide age-appropriate health education to students on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and wellness.

Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and families on health-related matters.

Promote healthy lifestyles and habits consistent with Catholic teachings on the dignity of the human person.

Public Health Compliance and PreventionMonitor communicable diseases, outbreaks, and immunization compliance per Department of Health regulations.

Collaborate with local health officials during public health emergencies.

Implement and update the schools health and safety protocols, including infection control and emergency response plans.

Collaboration and Mission SupportCollaborate with administration, counselors, and teachers to support student well-being and success.

Participate in school safety planning and crisis response teams.

Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education, including respect for the dignity of each student as a child of God.

QualificationsRegistered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Rhode Island.

Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

Bachelors degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.

Minimum of 2 years pediatric, school, or public health nursing experience preferred.

Understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable school health laws.
