The clinical nurse is responsible and accountablefor the overall nursing care management of a designated group ofpatients. They collaborate with the Nursing Director and members ofthe Patient Care Team to achieve efficient patient outcomes. Theyalso collaborate with the patient toward meeting the needs andexpectations of the patient and family. Clinical nurses ensure thatcare is safe, efficient, effective, timely and meets the cultural,spiritual, and ethnic needs of each patient and family.
Principalduties and responsibilities:
1. Provides competent, compassionatepatient
- and family-centered nursing care based on scientificprinciples and the use of the nursing process and interdisciplinaryteamwork.
a) Provides and maintains a therapeutic environment forpatients and families b) Articulates the professional nursing roleto the patient, family, and health team members. c) Identifies,plans, and implements nursing interventions. Facilitates, andevaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient orgroup of patients d) Coordinates involvement of the patient,family, and health team members in patient care, includingpatient/family education, teaching, and discharge planning. e)Documents relevant patient data / information. f) Communicates theplan of care and other pertinent information to/from other healthcare team members. Promotes continuity of care through effectivehand-offs. g) Helps define standards of excellence for patientcare; participates in improvement of patient care services in acost-effective way. h) Performs specific functions as described inthe unit Scope of Service. i) Provides care appropriate to agegroup of patients on assigned unit(s) as described in relevant unitScope of Service. j) Participates in, and contributes to,performance improvement activities. k) Integrates the six aims ofperformance improvement into care delivery: (a) Safety — noneedless death, injury, pain or suffering for patients or staff.(b) Effectiveness — care and service will be based on bestevidence, informed by patient values and preferences. (c) PatientCenteredness — all care and service will honor the individualpatients — their values, choices, culture, social context andspecific needs. (d) Timeliness — waste no one’s time; nounnecessary waiting. (e) Efficiency — remove all unnecessaryprocesses or steps in a process; streamline all activities. (f)Equity — all care and service will be fair and equitable — thesystem will treat all patients equally. l) Exhibits compliance withregulatory and quality and safety requirements. 2) Collaborateswith other professionals and directs support staff andnonprofessional nursing personnel in maintaining recognizedstandards a) Teaches and advises all nonprofessional nursingpersonnel for whom they is responsible. b) Participates inorientation of new permanent and temporary staff members. c)Appropriately uses nursing resources. d) Interprets hospital anddepartmental policies and procedures to nurses and other healthteam members 3) Participates in daily operational activitiesnecessary for safe patient/staff environment. a) Utilizes resourcesefficiently to facilitate optimal patient care. b) Provides inputto the Nursing Director/nurse leader regarding unit needs. c)Participates in unit and departmental committees for formulation ofnursing and hospital policies and procedures. d)
ProfessionalDevelopment:
i) Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skillsbased on current nursing education practices. ii) Adheres toDepartment of Nursing requirements for required training. iii)Identifies specific learning needs and goals and develops a plan tomeet them. iv) Contributes to relevant committees, professionalmeetings, continuing educational and/or formal academic programs.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or
REGISTRATIONS

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth ofMassachusetts. Specialty certification preferred.
