Job Description Summary
The In-basket nurse will report to the Ambulatory Service Manager. Under general supervision, this position will support the Sickle Cell, Palliative Care and Geriatrics RT2 in-basket workload. Items such as patient advice request, result notes, medication refill requests, prior authorizations, refill errors, and all other items. The RN working to support the clinics in-basket pools, allows them to handle these items for these clinics to the top of their licensure.

Job Description

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift:

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, no nights or weekends

Job Summary/Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.
Functions as a cohesive member of the Adult Sickle Cell, Palliative and Geriatrics RT2 team facilitating patient care and treatment through telephone and electronic encounters. The duties include but are not limited to: respond to callers health information inquires (via telephone and internet) and facilitate referrals; provide verbal/printed health information; provide nursing triage for all ages of patients using established guidelines and direct callers to the most appropriate level of care. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and behaviors.

Minimum Training and Education:

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
