Job Goal
The person in this position is responsible for coordinating/providing all district First Aid/CPR/AED training, including conducting annual drills at all district locations as well as managing all CPR/AED equipment and supplies. In addition, the CPR/AED Coordinator will continuously monitor the CPR/AED program to ensurepliancy and effectiveness.
Qualifications/Credentials:
- Possess an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor’s Certification which qualifies them to teach Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and First Aid and CPR with AED and Bleeding Control
- Obtain AHA BLS Training Faculty appointment to assist BLS instructors in maintaining instructor status
- Basic Computer skills using Excel, Google and Word with keyboarding proficiency
- A minimum of 2 years as a CPR Instructor or other instructional experience
- Valid driver’s license with dependable transportation and the willingness to travel to various locations
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions - Requires prolonged sitting
- Occasionally requires exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects or materials. Lifting up to 40 lbs. Medium work with exerting 50 lbs. of force occasionally. Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force as needed to move objects.
- Occasional stooping, bending and reaching
- Requires local travel
- Works primarily inside, but may require work during outside activities
- Noise levels may be such that will require loud talking in order to be heard on occasion
Performance Responsibilities
1) Provide CPR/AED/First Aid training for district employees
a.
Compile and maintain a list of designated First Responders for each school and district facility
b. Monitor district First Aid/CPR/AED training instructors’ certification and coordinate re-certification opportunity
c. Schedule and conduct First Aid/CPR training for the district’s First Responders, coaches, nurses, PT/OT staff and EDP staff using traditional classes and/or online training
d. Coordinate certification of First Responders through nationally recognized training that meets or exceeds the standards of the American Heart Association, being responsible for training materials and distribution of certification cards
e. Monitor, update and facilitate District Bleeding Control training program
f. Serves as a liaison between CPR instructor training center and the school district
2) Coordinate and implement the District AED Program (see the District AED Program for details)
a. Provide AED training to designated school personnel in all schools and facilities with AEDs, following guidelines of the district’s AED program.
b. Serves as liaison between the District AED program, the District Health Services Director and the Oversight Physician to continue implementation of the District AED program
c. Oversees implementation of the program requirements, including training programs, drill procedures and maintenance for all AED equipment and related supplies at each school through collaboration with nursing services and designated district staff.
d. Forwards incident data to the Oversight Physician for review
e. Reviews response documentation and event data for all uses of the AED
f. Conducts a post-incident debriefing with the nursing services, designated district staff and First Responders
g. Assists with AED/CPR portion of New Nurse Orientation program
h. Rmends improvement to the AED program determined after review of literature, consultation with experts and review of AED utilization
i. Coordinate with schools to provide practice AED drills as defined in the AED Program, including bleeding control review
j. Provide appropriate, updated AED Program documentation forms as needed; ensurepliancy of AED documentation (daily checks and CPR/AED binder updates)
k. Assist all district locations and athletic programs in purchasing AEDs as needed
3) Plan and participate in Summer Academy First Aid/CPR/AED employee training
4) Coordinate CPR Instructor Training to supplement First Aid/CPR/AED training at district locations and Summer Academy.
5) Ongoing monitoring and maintenance of AED devices. Maintain all district CPR/AED equipment and supplies, includingmunicating with AED manufacturer, forecasting, ordering and delivery.
6) Member of the DERT team (District Emergency Response)
