Position Overview The Pediatric Nurse plays a vital role in supporting our physicians and enhancing the patient experience by delivering high-quality, compassionate care. This position involves clinical support, patient education, and coordination of care to ensure all patients receive timely, thorough medical attention in a child-friendly environment. Responsibilities Wear a name tag and greet patients and families warmly each day. Understand and follow HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA guidelines; complete annual training requirements. Demonstrate EMR proficiency, including typing, mouse use, and system navigation. Confirm patient identity and introduce yourself before initiating care. Mark “Doctor” or “MA ready” in the EMR once patient orders are complete. Administer immunizations as ordered, including IM, SQ, intranasal, and transdermal formats. Review immunization questionnaires and VFC forms prior to administration. Accurately bill VFC vaccines using correct codes and procedures. Administer non-narcotic medications and treatments as instructed by the physician. Prepare and assist with clinical procedures including pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, wound care, catheterizations, and suture/staple removal. Respond to patient calls within 4 hours; document communications and follow-up accordingly. Place and return calls to families, verifying HIPAA compliance. Triage walk-in patients and escalate concerns to the Triage Nurse when appropriate. Assist in managing
ADD/ADHD
follow-ups and medication compliance every 3 months. Call in or electronically send prescriptions per physician orders; resolve eRx errors when needed. Distribute and document medication samples, ensuring proper instructions are given. Complete daily quality control checks and documentation for in-house lab testing. Collect and process specimens for in-house and send-out labs (e.g., CBC, glucose, strep, urinalysis, pregnancy tests). Ensure all lab results are appropriately documented and routed. Educate parents on specimen collection and proper storage techniques. Perform vision and hearing screenings and complete immunization records within 48 hours. Oversee or conduct weight checks and consult with physicians as needed. Provide asthma education and complete Asthma Action Plans with patients. Complete venipuncture as trained and delegated by the Nurse Team Leader. Submit accurate call reports and escalate messages to appropriate staff in the EMR. Assist in emergencies, gathering equipment and narcotics, and calling 911 if necessary. Use internet access only for job-related tasks. Call hospitals for admissions per physician instructions. Complete and return camp/sports physical forms within 48 hours. Fax WIC forms and insurance-required prior authorizations within 24 hours of request.
