Cardiac Cath Full Time Day Shift 7:00am-5:30pm

Job Summary Coordinates and performs all aspects of patient care during Electrophysiology (EP) Cases. Provides nursing care as needed for patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Cath/EP Lab.

Essential Functions Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following patient populations: Adolescent (13 years through 17 years) Adult (18 through 65 years) Geriatric (over 65 years) Provides primary nursing care for patients during pre, intra, and post-procedure. Ability to learn, interpret, and perform highly complex technical procedures which requires visual acuity, manual dexterity, and exposure to biohazardous materials which includes blood borne pathogens, minimal radiation, and MSDS listed hazardous chemicals.
Ability to see, hear, and respond to physical emergencies in an expedient manner.
Ability to apply the four senses (ie., seeing, smelling, hearing and touching) and speak the English Language.
Ability to learn and interpret hospital policies and provide administrative support to patient, visitors, and staff as needed or requested.
Able to make physical assessments of the department and equipment for proper functioning, cleanliness, and reporting of malfunctions to Cath Lab Manager.
Able to assist in necessary unit/departmental patient care, QA, and inventory control.
Ability to observe change in patient condition/status and respond in accordance with ACLS protocol as appropriate.
Ability to complete documentation of procedure including: patient care, conscious sedation and medication administration, inventory utilization, procedural complications, and ongoing assessment of level of consciousness.
Ability to lift assist in the moving of patients or equipment.
Ability to identify, locate, assemble, clean, and transport instruments, and/or supplies as appropriate.
Ability to escort and/or direct patients, visitors, and physicians around the medical center.
Ability to provide basic and critical care nursing interventions as warranted by patients’ conditions and needs.
Demonstrates flexibility by adjusting personal schedule to accommodate the department workload.
Acts as a preceptor and positive role model for orienting new employees and students.
Uses proper chain of command for reporting areas of concern or equipment malfunctions.
Uses time constructively to manage and organize daily assignments and caseload.
Monitors vital signs, LOC Ramsey, Aldrete Score and SPO2 during procedures following IV Conscious Sedation administration according to hospital policy. Duties & Responsibilities Utilizes cost effective measures in nursing practice.
Assumes responsibility for attending a minimum of 12 continuing education classes per year.
Demonstrates competency in the utilization of emergency medical equipment.
Maintains PAR level for designated inventory area.
Demonstrates competency in arrhythmia interpretation.
Uses universal precautions when there is risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.
Demonstrates competency in the use of the following equipment: GE Cardiolab; Oxygen equipment; Suction equipment; Electronic Health Record; X-Ray imaging equipment and radiation safety guidelines; Plasma Blade; IV Pumps; Digital filmless Imaging Equipment; Defibrillator; 3D mapping systems and all associated components; Micropace; Intracardiac Ultrasound
Utilizes sterile technique when setting up tables and when working as the scrub nurse on EP procedures.
Demonstrates ability to administer medications requiring specialized knowledge (ie. Dopamine, IV NTG, isoprel, adenosine, emergency drugs etc.).
Assists in cleaning and restocking the EP/Cath Lab and holding room.
Performs daily QA checks on defibrillators, medication refrigerators, and O2 tanks.
Accountable for medication counts, patient charging, and expiration dates
Maintains competency in arrhythmia interpretation and treatment.
Will cross-train to perform other duties as needed in the department and within the hospital system.
Maintains ACLS Certifications
Annual Mandatory Hospital and Departmental training.
Attends or views 12 education classes or inservices per year. ( May View Educational PowerPoints on the Intranet)
Ensure Hazardous Waste or Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals are discarded, stored, and managed with other compatible waste streams in containers that are properly labeled and closed prior to being shipped offsite for proper disposal. Initial RCRA training is received within 6 months of the hire date and continuing with annual RCRA training.
