  • ABOUT THE JOB The Graduate Nurse, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse,performs routine patient care assignments in commonly occurringsituations using established standards.

This is a pre-licensurenurse position that typically lasts up to 90 days. Missouri Boardof Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN within thegraduate nurse practice period of ninety (90) days as a conditionof continued employment in this job.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Participates in the nurse residency program while completingorientation. Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing needs, sets goals, andprescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and thephysical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of thepatient, including discharge planning. Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient’sself-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate toolfor assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, orthe FLACC.) Demonstrates an understanding of medications with regards to actionand side effects. Reports pertinent information to appropriateindividual. Educates patients and significant others about theirmedications. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate effectiveness of nursinginterventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient careoutcomes. Maintain the standards of nursing care and implements the policiesand procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit. Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performanceimprovement groups. Full understanding of the attendance andpunctuality guidelines and adhere to the dress code. Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients tothe appropriate person (i.e. physicians, head nurse, charge nurse,and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observationsaccurately and concisely. Provides quality care to patients and work with multi-disciplinaryteam to ensure the highest patient satisfaction. May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined indepartment documents. May complete unit/department specific dutiesas outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Nursing program graduate. Must pass the NCLEX exam on the first attempt and obtain MissouriBoard of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RNlicensure, both within the 90 day graduate practice period. Has less than 1 year of RN experience in the profession.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of thosethat must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. Theperformance of these physical demands is an essential function ofthe job. This position is very active and requires ambulating,reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. Thisrole also routinely comes in contact with patients who may havecontagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365days a year.
