General Summary of Position The Vice President of Nursing Practice Innovation providesleadership with the Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer(SVP & CNO) for the implementation, evaluation and refinement ofthe MedStar Health nursing professional practice model and willsupport the entities in their Magnet Recognition and Pathways toExcellence journeys. The Vice President of Nursing PracticeInnovation is accountable for the development of clinical practiceguidelines in conjunction with the system Nursing Practice Council.
This position is accountable and responsible for leading clinicaltransformation in partnerships with the SVP & CNO, MedStar Healthnursing leaders and leaders from other disciplines throughstandardizing evidence
- based nursing practice across the continuumof care, reducing variability in nursing practice, and providingsystem level oversight of the NDNQI and NICHE programs.
This leaderwill provide oversight of nursing sensitive outcome measures.
Additionally, the VP will provide leadership and direction insupply evaluation and standardization with nurses and incollaboration with other clinical disciplines and purchasingleaders. In conjunction with the SVP/CNO the incumbent will drivenursing practice innovation while assuring the MedStar clinicalpractice guidelines position us to achieve appropriate performancein the patient experience and value-based purchasing. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Develops and contributes to the achievement of MedStar Healthand corporate nursing established goals and objectives and adheresto department policies, procedures, quality standards and safetystandards. Ensures compliance with MedStar Health policies andprocedures and governmental/accreditation regulations. Provides system level direction and oversight for the NDNQI andNICHE programs. Provides oversight of system level reporting of nursingsensitive outcome measure. In collaboration with Corporate Senior Vice President & CNO,develops specific objectives and expected outcomes and metrics forpractice innovation annually. In collaboration with entity based nursing and other clinicalleaders, identifies opportunities for improving patient caredelivery. Working with entity-based nursing leaders, plans, tests andevaluates innovative patient care delivery models aimed atimproving the quality of care in a fiscally responsible manner.
Establishes, collects and evaluates metrics to be used inevaluating new models. Works with both nursing and medical leadership to develop caremodels that provide patients with seamless care across thehealthcare continuum. Uses existing evidence and contributes new evidence indeveloping any new approaches to patient care. Maximizes the use of technology in creating new models ofcare. Remains abreast of innovative patient care delivery programsbeing tested and/or implemented throughout the country. Prepares grants for funding the design and evaluation of newmodels of care. Provides oversight for strategic initiatives within corporatenursing and in MedStar Health. Serves as a mentor for clinical and nursing administrationcolleagues and provides expert consultation on nursingpractice. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents thedepartment and business unit in community outreach efforts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and serviceimprovement teams and maintains effective working relationshipswith other departments.

- State Licensure and/or Compact StateLicensure RN licensure in Maryland and the District of ColumbiaUpon Hire required and Professional certification preferred. Upon Hire requiredand CPR
- Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP)for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association(AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by departmentor business unit.
