Job Description

Qualifications:

Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the South Carolina Board of Nursing
Current Adult, Child, & Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program certification.
Computer literacy
Valid driver’s license
One year of experience as a RN, preferable in pediatric, community health nursing

Supervisor:

District Health Coordinator, Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

(includes other duties as assigned)
Nursing Care
Provides acute or chronic health care, first aid, and emergency care to students in accordance with professional scope and standards as identified by the SC State Board of Nursing and school policy and procedures.
Administers medication with appropriate documentation and in accordance with the SC State Board of Nursing- Nurse Practice Act.
Provides nursing care procedures as defined in the Individualized Health Care Plan (IEP).
Maintains accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, communicable disease reporting, OSHA, and acute or chronic medical conditions.
Performs DHEC recommended screening procedures and reports.
Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for reportable diseases and suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
Notifies the District Health Coordinator (and/ or designee) of any school emergency situation.

Health Education and Promotion:

Participates as an active member of the school community, representing health, wellness and safety
Reinforces health by promoting behaviors for individual students and staff using health program protocols and approved educational materials.
Communication
Maintains communication with the District Health Coordinator, teachers and other school personnel, and parents/guardians to promote a health and safe school environment.
Provides health services, information, and counseling within the scope of practice, in a cost efficient and effective manner.
Consults District Health Coordinator for complex nursing issues or direction in professional nursing practice scope and standards.
Completes the accident/incident reports for students/staff and communicates with Risk Manager whenever there is a perceived liability for the school district or an unresolved environmental safety concern.
Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues, unless legally mandated to report.
Organization
Maintains electronic / pen and paper health records of student and staff visits and documentation on student’s individual health records.
Maintains the health office facility and supplies.
Resource Utilization
Utilizes existing computer technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Records 100% of health visits into the nursing log, and assists as needed to maximize Medicaid reimbursement as outlined by Medicaid – Reimbursable School-Based Services.
Compiles data as requested for statistical purposes.
Professional Development
Maintains current knowledge and competency in the specialty practice of school nursing.
Attends nurses’ staff meetings, in-services, and credentialing programs provided by the district.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor will serve as the rating officer for the performance appraisal, with the school principal serving as the reviewing officer.
